Update on my Bob

Hi All,

Just wanted to let you know that Bob is coming along pretty well in

rehab for his hip replacement that he had on Jan. 9th 2012. He is

able to walk slowly with the walker, but they are still having two

CNAs to transfer him to bed, chair or toilet. He has a follow up

appointment on Friday the 17th of Feb. with the surgeon. The PT is

saying he will probably be discharged to home on Feb. 25th. I am

still concerned that he is not going to be able to transfer with only

my assistance in the evening when he is most tired. They are still

sometimes using the sit to stand machine at night to put him to bed as

he is too exhausted to move on his own sometimes. We are hoping that

by the 25th he will have gained in endurance enough to only need my

assistance at home. Time will tell. I am going to do a trial run at

the facility of doing all his cares for the morning of the 15th and

the evening of the 16th to see how we do there with the aides

available to help. We will also bring Bob home for a home visit with

the PT sometime this week to have them assess his ability to go up one

step into the house from the garage, and also how he will do at

getting into his bed which is a rather high pillow top at 301/2 inches

from the floor. I may need to get a hospital bed that goes down lower

and a fall mat to put next to his bed as he tries to get up often

during the night.

Bob's sister will come from Texas to help for a short while when he

first comes home. I do not know how much help she will be, (not

much!), as she has said she is not comfortable with doing any hands on

care that involves dressing or undressing, or toileting him, as she

does not want to have to see her brother naked. She can do errands,

laundry, and cooking or cleaning I guess.

Time for me to go to visit Bob and help him with his lunch today.
