There is no way to predict how long ADT

(Androgen Deprivation Therapy) as hormone therapy is more correctly known will

be effective. Each of us is different: there are many variances of prostate

cancer and so the outcome is very variable. The more you know about the past

history of the development of the disease – your father’s past

history that is - the more accurate the ‘guess’ about the future

might be. But there are no quick fixes in getting this information and there is

no certainty about any answer. Having said that, can I make the following

suggestions:

you

get hold of a copy of the US-Too booklet suggested by Steve J.

you might join the Malecare an online support group for advanced

prostate cancer patients, at http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/advancedprostatecancer/

go along to my website – YANA

- You Are Not Alone Now www.yananow.net – you can either read through it from the start, which

will give you some good basic information or you can go right to http://www.yananow.net/choices.htm#hormone

to gain a better understanding of how ADT works

then

go to http://www.yananow.net/Experiences.html#adt

to see the list of men who have told their personal stories about their

ADT treatment. As Steve J says, you must be careful about listening to ‘what

people say’ but there is also value in reading what people have

done. Be sure to read Trueman Seamans’ story at http://www.yananow.net/Mentors/TruemanS.htm

- he was diagnosed in 1999 and was still going when he update his story

earlier this year.

I hope this all helps.

All the best

I have no medical

qualifications but I was diagnosed in ‘96: and have learned a bit since

then.

My sites are at www.yananow.net and www.prostatecancerwatchfulwaiting.co.za
