Guest guest
Hello All, i've been reading all yours posts with interest. I just joined the group a few days ago. I was diagnosed with PCa a few weeks ago. I'm 46yoa male with no family history of PCa. Diagnosis is a result of DRE, palable nodule (node), ultrasound and biopsy with 13 core samples taken. PSA was 1.5, Gleason was 6 (Urologist did not give me the breakdown of two different breakdowns of the Gleason scores). Nor did doctor give me staging information yet. He said several core samples were positive for PCa. Although it does not seem to be agressive. To say the least I've been doing a lot of research since the diagnosis. The urologist gave me the dx and immediately began to talk about surgery and or radiation - whichever I preferred, but disease contingent. I asked the doctor to send lab work to a second lab for verification. I'm in the New York City metro area and am considering going into NYC for second opinion etc. Although in speaking to my internist today (who incidentally found the intial enlarged prostate and node), mentioned not not liking the larger NY City hospitals as they are teaching hospitals and generally you don't get the same doctor working on you who you have consulted with. Internist brought up about notion of private hospitals (Boston & Florida), particularly one or two in Flordia where daVinci robotic suregery for PCa is there specialty. Doctor could not recall name of doctors there nor hospitals, but is checking for me. Any suggestions, thoughts or advice? I'm scheduled for a CT and Bone scan within the this Thursday, but from what I've read may not officer that much help. I've also read about Dr. Bard (clinical radiologist), in NYC, doing power doppler imaging ultrasound using blood flow ultrasound technology to differntiate between cancer and benign prostatic hypertrophy. Any help and suggestions would be appreciated!
