Guest guest
I actually carry them in my purse. I have used them in the past. It seems you don't get an immediate fix but a slow fix. I think the higher carb things give you a quicker fix which is in fact dangerous. I think I will stick with the tabs. Kathy
Guest guest
Hi, Dawn..what a sad story. Please consider us your family now. There are lots of caring people right here who will make SURE you have the education to avoid the complications your poor mother accumulated and died of. All you have to do is pay attention and act on it.. As another poster said, 28 is a great place to start...you have plenty of time ahead of you and it's going to be GOOD time too. Please read the Gretchen Becker book and check out the Bernstein website (url link at bottom of this post). Both of these will give you EXCELLENT ammunation to fight this battle. And you can win! We're here to help and support you. Take care. Vicki In a message dated 04/08/2002 8:37:37 PM US Mountain Standard Time, dawnmichele@... writes: > What more could a girl want? Guest guest
<<No offense to Phyllis, but I don't know if I can bear to hear about her loosing her legs, or loss of kidney function. It seems like one day I was 28, and ready for the rest of my life, and now I'm 28 and falling apart. Thanks for listening!>> Actually the good news is that you are only 28. Which means that you can get excellent control now and not have complications. Also, I think we will see a cure in the next 10 to 15 years. My doctor believes it will come from the Gene theraphy. So get control now. Where I work, they say of most of the diseases, diabetes is the most treatable and controllable, by just lifestyle changes. Hang in there, it does get better and easier. Guest guest
The reason you probably felt sick at 90 is because your body is so used to high numbers that when you get down to normal numbers your body complains. As your numbers get closer to normal, you'll feel great at 90. A true hypo is anything below 65. Your goal should be as close to 100 as you can get...but anything between 65 and 120 with two-hour postprandial peak up to 140 is fine. Vicki PS: Congratulations on your initial BG lowering... you're on your way! Guest guest
Hi, Dawn... You may have to forego fruit...not only is it carby but of course, it's sweet. The lowest carb fruits are berries -- strawberries, raspberries, blueberries. A small amount of cantalope is maybe okay. Best thing to do is test before eating, eat and test again at one and two hours after eating and keep good notes. then you'll find out what works for you. The snow peas are somewhat carby too...here's a list of veggies that you can eat all you want ... broccoli cauliflower cabbage sauerkraut bok choy mushrooms spinach greenbeans brussel sprouts spaghetti squash summer squash turnips (maybe) ....and I may have forgotten a few. Don't forget to have a big salad every night (for fiber)...I like to slice up a quarter avocado in mine, that's all I add to it. You'll notice the absence of tomatos, peas, beans, all kinds of potatos from the list. They're pretty high carb..but you can check them out, one at a time and find out how they affect your body. Guest guest
Nuts and cheese are good snacks...but not peanuts (they're not truly nuts). and don't take the whole package with you.. watch the portion size, count out ten or so. That'll satisfy. I think almonds are the lowest carb...then pecans or walnuts. Macadamias and cashews are the highest fat nuts. Guest guest
Hello dawnmichele@..., In reference to your comment: ð If anyone has any suggestions on food/snacks until I ð figure this out I would appreciate it.... Last night i took about 5 oz of pepperoni sliced (i buy mine at walmart its way cheaper) and put it on a plate spread out in 1 layer, then covered it with mozzarella cheese, (shredded) and put it in the microwave for about a minute... I then slid a couple of papertowels under the pepperoni. Yummmy and very little carbs

Guest guest
> What a story! I certainly can see now why you would feel the way you do. But, just remember it is a new day in the diabetes world. Your mother probably did the best she could with no support from the medical community or no internet groups. I feel very bad for you, but just remember things are alot different now. Guest guest
Hi Dori, First of all I want to thank you so much for taking the time out of your busy schedule to try to help me with this issue. It was very nice of you to care so much. Secondly, I am in this group because I have a lot of issues but thankfully none of them are RSD. I have a birth defect called Spina Bifida. This is why I keep getting all of these yeast infections. I have numerous kidney infections all the time. I use Nyastatin cream and power but, cannot take the pills as they are not good for the kidney and since I only have one kidney and it is not working to its full capacity, I have to be very very careful what I take internally. I have had twenty operations and I lost the left kidney to Pilonepheritus and seven kidney stones (yes seven at one time). I know that sounds odd by I am paralyzed and did not know I had that many stones until I got referred pain in my neck and went to the doctor and had a sonogram done. Since then, I have had nothing but grief with this kidney. I am very lucky though. With all of thes issues I am able to still live at home with my parents. I have a wonderful family with three dogs one cat and a fish. I try very hard to see the positves in my life but every now and then, the negatives are just a bit much. Oh well, life goes on. Thank you again for all the time you took to check on me with this lovely note. You have a fantastic week. Thank you again. Sincerely, DawnDori Beynon wrote: Hi Dawn, Dawn I realize that I am very very late in responding to this letter but I am trying to catch up a little at a time on some of the emails that I have saved that I wanted to respond to and this was one of them. You mentioned that you have a problem with yeast following you all over your body. Is your doctor not treating you for any type of candida overgrowth syndrome? I take nystatin tablets and you can also take it in powder form which is more expensive of course but it kills the yeast cells in your body. If you take it for 6 months straight and follow a very strict diet it will completely kill the all the yeast in your body. I have not had a problem with yeast for the last couple months and I will order my last 6 month bottle on the 16 th of this month. Just something you might want to suggest to your doctor. I just cant' imagine you having to deal with all that pain and itching on top of the pain of RSD. RSD friends Dori Re: WEATHER==YUCK! Hi Joy, I do not have RSD so please excuse me if I say something really stupid here but, I get Yeast infections a lot. The Yeast litterally goes everywhere it can find to go. I thought that I would type in and tell you the only thing that helps me with this pain and discomfort is corn startch. I know it sounds soooooooooooooooo dumb but, I sprinkle some of that under my arms, under my breasts and everywhere else that the Yeast decides it would be a good place to hide and within a few days the pain and itch and discomfort are a bit better. Now, I am not a doctor or nurse and I am not trying to tell you what to do. This is just what I do and for people with Spina Bifida (which is what I have) it does help. Have a fantastic day.
