Guest guest
Ramdev's 'quackery' has IMA fuming QUACK-FIX METHODS? IMA alleges people die at Ramdev's camps as they are given wrong medicines. New Delhi: He can perhaps be best described as the guru of controversies. After he invited flak for his claims of having the abilities to drastically effect the health of patients suffering from cancer and HIV/AIDS, Baba Ramdev has now run into another row. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Monday accused Ramdev of ''misleading'' people about the cure of life-threatening diseases. The Association, alleging that people were dying at the Baba's camps and were being administered ''wrong medicines'', went a step ahead and said it will oppose ''quackery'' in all its forms ''Baba Ramdev's very successful magic concoctions need to be properly tested before being used by human beings. Are the concoctions put on trials before being marketed ? The Swami-turned businessman-cum-drug manufacturer has to answer many questions,'' IMA National President Ajay Kumar told journalists. He also justified IMA's reasons for calling Ramdev a quack. ''People who do not belong to any of the four streams of medicine approved by the Government of India are quacks. They have to be stopped from misleading and killing patients,'' he was quoted by PTI as saying. However, while Kumar asserted that the Association was not against Yoga, he also said there was no scientific evidence that life threatening diseases like cancer and HIV/AIDS could be cured only by yoga. Kumar said IMA supported the Union Health Ministry in taking action against Baba Ramdev and would mobilise public opinion against the Guru. ''The Yoga guru must stick to teaching yoga alone and not play with the lives on millions of people by misleading them and casting aspersions on the medical community,'' he said. Kumar claimed that he had received threats for opposing the ''malpractice of the Yoga Guru'', but would not file an FIR since he did not have any proof. ''I have received threats for opposing the Guru, but that will not deter either the IMA or me in stopping him,'' he said http://www.ibnlive.com/news/ramdevs-quackery-has-ima-fuming/30660- 3.html?xml
Guest guest
Dear FORUM, Baba Ji is not the only case. Almost everywhere quacks are playing with the lives of innocent people. In Lucknow too, one Lavanya Ayurvedic Clinic is openly displaying hoardings and panels on the UP state road transport buses claiming cure for AIDS and cancer. Should we call it, state sponsored quackery!. It must stop. Dear Union Health Minister, are you listning.
