Guest guest
every time I go on prednisone, I gain 10-15 pounds. I never am able to lose it. It is mostly in my abdomen. I hate the weight but the pain relief is incredible. It really works for me. <man_u8@...> wrote: Melynda, I was on predisone for about 6 mo when the doctors couldn't figure out what was wrong w/ me. I had other side effects of moodiness and insomina during that peroid. > > DOES ANYONE THINK THAT PRED.HAS AN AFFECT ON THEIR BODY,WHICH MAKES > THEM GAIN WEIGHT?IM ON 4MG.OF PRED. & I CAN NOT SEEM TO LOSE THE > WEIGHT.MY STOMACH IS BIG BUT THE REST OF ME IS LITTLE.COULD SOMETHING > ELSE BE THE PROBLEM & I JUST DO NOT KNOW? I am 5 ft 6 and went down to 95# from 120#. My face is sunken in and I have been on 7.5-20 mg for almost a decade. When I first went on it, it seemed to stimulate my taste buds. Food tasted soooo good for a couple of years. Eating was a joy! Now, gradually just the opposite. There is just a handful of foods I can stand to eat. I have lost the pleasure of enjoying a meal or a snack. I think over time, your system adjusts go the prednisone, just a guess. I wish I WOULD get a moon face! There are worse things than having a good appetite. As far as people losing weight, I think it is important not to " listen " to your appetite, even if it tells you that you are hungry. Decide each morning what you will eat and how much...and stick to it. Exercise and have fun doing it....make it and your eating habits part of your daily life, not a temporary " diet " . Guest guest
You are feeling the effects of the prednisone. Both my mother and I put weight on and it mostly goes to your belly. It also decreases your muscle mass, which makes your belly even look bigger. It is also much harder to lose steroid weight, as the steroids affect your metabolism. If ANYONE has any advice as to how to make it easier to lose this steroid weight, PLEASE SPEAK UP?!?!?! Thanks <man_u8@...> wrote: Melynda, I was on predisone for about 6 mo when the doctors couldn't figure out what was wrong w/ me. They thought it was either lupus or RA. Guest guest
Hi Pris....... Are you on any other medications? The reason I ask is.......I had a similar problem with Enbrel.......although it doesn't normally make you 'gain' weight as does prednisone, but I lost so much weight that I had to go off of it. I lost 20ish pounds in less than a month and I had already been losing gradually (didn't need to either!!!) from the start of taking Enbrel. Your doctor might should take you off whatever drug is causing your weight loss in my opinion because it is NOT healthy as you well know!
