I heartily second what Kate has offered! In my mother's only hospitalization

(2007), her physician gave us orders to have someone with Mom 24/7. With only my

husband and I available to do that, the hospital was gracious enough to provide

a sitter between midnight and 7 a.m. My husband and I covered the remaining

hours, sometimes a bit more depending on the availability of a volunteer to sit

with Mom. Mom's doctor was a wise man...

On another occasion, my husband was hospitalized pre-surgery for a kidney stone.

He had pain meds in him and wasn't the most clear-thinking person because of

that. I sat with him as much as possible (thankfully, it wasn't a lengthy

process). At one point, a nurse came into his room with a syringe in her hand.

I asked what it was...her reply was that it was his insulin. I'm so thankful I

was there...he doesn't take insulin! The nurse checked the records and

discovered she was in the wrong room. <sigh> I had a little talk with the

floor nurse to ensure that particular nurse didn't cross the threshhold to my

husband's room again.

One can never be too confident that all bases are covered.

Best wishes,

Lynn in FL

care closely. Someone the hospital has to listen to.
