Guest guest
Hi , I only take 100 mgs of Minocycline a day. After over 5 years of the typical RA meds, the last being MTX...I am thrilled to be pain free for the past 6 days...I have not had a pain free day in years. I am also not taking any Prednisone or NSAIDS. I stopped them all. I remain very optimistic that I have found my answer to this nightmare. Guest guest
Hi Diane: What exactly is MINOCYCLINE? Is it a biological drug? I am on the top dose of MTX injections, and biological drugs have been ruled out for me. The worst thing for me are my feet and ankles...... they hurt so bad some days I want to chop them off!!!!! Both feet and ankles are so stiff, that I walk like someone who staggers!!!! I can deal with the other parts with the R.A., but this is just unbearable most days. I just found this website last week, and it has been so helpful, with all the e-mails, support, etc. I am an extremely positive person, but...................................... this R.A. is really getting to me. It has changed my life, but not for the better. I have always enjoyed being active, use to walk 3 miles every day, I enjoy taking care of my home, and I am a stenciler and a folk art painter. I moved here from N.E. 3 1/2 years ago due to the fact I can't tolerate the weather any more. Well, I am now mostly home, can't sit for long due to pain, etc. Haven't been able to paint at all, as my hands and writsts are so swollen, and painful. I am an advid reader, so this is what I do mostly. Also, get on line often. I want to have a much better quality of life then I have now, as I am sure all of you do too. As I see from all the e-mails, many are suffering from depression, and I am fighting that now. This R.A. is moving so fast, it scares me to death. I am 68, and very late to be getting R.A. I got diagnosed 5 years ago. I just wish I could get my feet and ankles better. Does anyone else have this same problem with their feet, etc.? Have you tried anything that helps? I had 4 injections in my heels, and it was brutal!!! Didn't do much for me........... Sorry this is so long, but I am having a really bad day, and just needed to say some things on my mind. I pray that each one of you can get some relief from this terrible disease...... Thanks, Barbara [ ] Re: NO PAIN WITH MINOCYCLINE Hi , I only take 100 mgs of Minocycline a day. Guest guest
Barbara, minocycline is an antibiotic, not a biologic. It has been used extensively for years in the treatment of acne and is a very safe drug. I have been on minocycline since last October, and my RA is very well controlled now. But it is not necessarily an easy road either. Definitely check out the Road Back website, www.roadback.org. The use of minocycline is controversial -- most rheumatologists do not believe in an infection theory of RA, and believe there is an anti-inflammatory response to minocycline. Some will not prescribe minocycline. Many of us believe there is some liklihood that RA is caused by infection, rather than an autoimmune disorder. The www.rheumatic.org is another good site for info. Don't give up hope. You can get your life back ....
