Guest guest
, Did they have you fill out a release form? Did you pay for these records? The reason I ask this is .... they may have just gave you THEIR " pertinent " information regarding your care. You can request " complete record " which would include all bloodwork results, tests, etc but they may (as they have the right to) charge you for it..... Does the office have an administrator? If not, ask for the office manager and tell them your concerns about the difference of the size in office vs what you received. *~ Kami ~* [ ] Important - need all the advise I can get!! Hello & good morning to all. I have quite a delimia and I need all of the advice I can get so I need you!!! OK. I will get to the point, I requested a copy of my medical records from my last RA doctor because I, as many of you know, am out to find a good - GOOD doctor. I expected to have to pay, but was told no, they are your records, you aren't charged. So, I waited....I waited and yesterday I finally got them. Now, mind you - I have seen my file in the office - it's probably a good 2 inches thick if not slightly more and let's not discuss the mess and disorganization that it was in. Anyway, you can imagine my SURPRISE when the thin set of copies of my " medical records " consisted of 19 pages. Is this normal? Is this even right? I know they are trying to hide the issue tjhat I was given medication on 2 different occasions in which I was VERY allergic to the meds. What advice do you guys have to offer? Anyone been thru the same thing with getting records? I live in SC. I have thought and still thinking about calling the AMA to find out what the proper procedure is. But I would love to hear from any of you too! This is really important as I am trying to get into see another doctor so I have to find out if this is the norm or not!! Thank you all and have a great day! D. ltdavis_jrdavis@... --------------------------------- Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile. Try it now. Guest guest
Hi , What I would do is call that doctor's office and just casually tell the office person that you were surprised that you ONLY received these few pages when you've seen the thick file...and see what she says. Of course if your not on good terms with the office this would not work. :-( I know the few times I have received my medical records they are always limited to test results, x-ray results and nothing much else...sorry for the aggravation.... Good luck finding a doctor...I know how hard it can be...they are a weird breed...at least that is what I find in the 3 I have met. :-) diane --- In , <ltdavis_jrdavis@...> wrote: > > Hello & good morning to all. > > I have quite a delimia and I need all of the advice I can get so I need you!!! > > OK. Guest guest
Good points - I offered to pay and they told me I wouldn't need to. I got some scarce blood results, scarse examanition reports but nothing compared to what I think I am due. I will pay very happily as I know that it costs them time & money. I am going to call back and make the request nicely, but I am still going to contact AMA and find out what the rules are for this. Thanks!! ~ Kami ~ <kamilleon@...> wrote: , Did they have you fill out a release form? Did you pay for these records? Guest guest
, It's HIPAA that deals more with patient's rights rather then the AMA. I would call their office and tell them that you received an incomplete set of your medical records. When you signed the release, they normally ask what medical records are you asking for; such as scans, labs, docotors notes etc. You would have to ask for everything. It is their job and they are required by law to give you the records that you had requested. If you have no luck in getting ahold of someone at the doctors office who can help you, then go down their personally and ask to speak w/ the office manager about obtaining all of your medical records including all scans, labs, doctors notes...everything that they have on file. If they are still being incompliant, let them know that you are going to have to report this to HIPAA. That doctors office can be fined a few thousand dollars for not following proper protocal for a patient obtaining their medical records. If you have any questions on the law, I would call HIPAA. I spent my whole career in healthcare, so I am familar w/ most office policies. Sometimes you have to play hard ball in order to get what you need. Hope this helps. --- In , <ltdavis_jrdavis@...> wrote: > > Hello & good morning to all. > > I have quite a delimia and I need all of the advice I can get so I need you!!! > > OK. Guest guest
Problem is - every time I went which was every 3 months - I SAW them document stuff - I even have seen them drop the file - which was huge and make an even MORE unorganized mess! A lot of the labs that I have copies of aren't in the thin 19 pages. I mean, I will nicely ask them for the full file, I am willing to pay & sign a release, but by george I WILL get what is due to me. Guest guest
, HIPAA stands for Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. Their website is www.hipaa.org. It was designed to protect patient's rights and keeping their medical information private. When you go to a doctors office, you are asked to sign a piece of paper stating that they can't release your medical records without your written consent. Have you found a new rheumatologist yet? If you have, they can request your medical records. I have found that doctors are more apt to be more curtious to other doctors. They might be willing to send your rheumatologist all of your medical records. Healthcare is kinda of an " old boys club " . Hope that helps. > > > > Hello & good morning to all. > > > > I have quite a delimia and I need all of the advice I can get so > I need you!!! > > > > OK.
