Guest guest
- I can only tell you as they pointed out you have a right to a copy of your records and some offices do charge as they figure the cost. Now if you think there are missing records, I would first call them back and give them the chance to furnish the rest of them, and or explain why there are not as many as you have witnessed seeing? As for the meds they gave you and you had a severe reaction, why are they hiding this?, as alot of us have had meds that caused bad reaction, and most times Dr. aren't responsible as how are they to know until once they have been tried. Did they know you had a allergy to this type of med to begin with and gave it anyway? Like I am allergic to Indocin, but did not know until I had been given it yrs ago, and thought I was going to die, now it is up to me to remember to tell each Medical facility I encounter. So as I say, I would give them the chance to furnish the complete pkg of records, they may of down sized it as to cut the cost of copies, thinking this is all you would need. When you asked for them did you tell them it was to take to a different Dr.?, if not try telling them it is for your personal data. My friend has done a smart thing, each time she goes to Dr. labs, tests, etc. she asks for a copy right then and there, and comes home with it. This elevates the possibility of what has happened here, less time in coping a bunch of records off and she takes them home and re-reads what they have told her and found on tests. If you are not satisfied with the response once you call them back, I would talk to a atty first. Good Luck Sharon <ltdavis_jrdavis@...> wrote: Hello & good morning to all. I have quite a delimia and I need all of the advice I can get so I need you!!! OK. I will get to the point, I requested a copy of my medical records from my last RA doctor because I, as many of you know, am out to find a good - GOOD doctor. I expected to have to pay, but was told no, they are your records, you aren't charged. So, I waited....I waited and yesterday I finally got them. Now, mind you - I have seen my file in the office - it's probably a good 2 inches thick if not slightly more and let's not discuss the mess and disorganization that it was in. Anyway, you can imagine my SURPRISE when the thin set of copies of my " medical records " consisted of 19 pages. Is this normal? Is this even right? I know they are trying to hide the issue tjhat I was given medication on 2 different occasions in which I was VERY allergic to the meds. What advice do you guys have to offer? Anyone been thru the same thing with getting records? I live in SC. I have thought and still thinking about calling the AMA to find out what the proper procedure is. But I would love to hear from any of you too! This is really important as I am trying to get into see another doctor so I have to find out if this is the norm or not!! Thank you all and have a great day! D. ltdavis_jrdavis@... --------------------------------- Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile. Try it now. Guest guest
Yes, they realize I am going to go to a different doctor but that was his choice in what I would like to say " he dumped me " after prescribing the same medication twice with having a severe reaction. After the ugly words of " effective immediately you are being discharged from our practice, he then continued to state that he would like to refer me to a medical teaching facitily. All of that was fine, but the doctor he referred me to was one of the coldest and uncompassionate doctors I have EVER seen. I asked again for him to refer me to someone else and he stated my PCP needed to do that. That's when I asked for my records. So, I think your advice is good, I will give them the opportunity to provide me with all of the missing documents and go from there. Thanks! sharon studley <seescallop@...> wrote: - I can only tell you as they pointed out you have a right to a copy of your records and some offices do charge as they figure the cost. Guest guest
Hi Sharon - I don't know why I just got this today!! But, learning from past mistakes, I, too, get copies of EVERYTHING now and keep it in an organizer. I offered to pay - to sign a release - but they told me that they gave me all of the pertinent information that is required of them. My PCP, who is treating me in the intrim, said that the allergic reactions scared the RA doc. Only one drug did they give me more than once that I had an allergic reaction to. I keep a list of all the drugs I can't take now and what happens to me when I take them. Luckily, my pcp treated my RA for 2 years prior to sending me to the specialist. So, he is very familar with my problems AND I always had my bloodwork done at his office so he could track my issues as well which I now know was prettty smart of me to do. Thanks for your input!
