Guest guest
OK I have decided it is time for me to get more serious about getting in better shape. Those of you that have used both, which would you prefer that is EASY on the lower back.. a non-motorized treadmill or an exercise bike? http://www.fingerhut.com/ProductGroup.aspx?offergroupxid=5834 & categoryxid=298 or http://www.fingerhut.com/ProductGroup.aspx?offergroupxid=22941 & categoryxid=432 I am leaning towards the treadmill just because of the gal's position on the bike. It looks liek a painful back position. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV My Ebay Jewelry Store (Closing after Xmas!!!) http://stores.ebay.com/valeriescrystalcreations http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/
Guest guest
I always preferred the treadmill to the bike. The bikes always hurt my bum no matter which kind of seat they had. Back in the day, I also found that you could add arm circle or other actions to make a more difficult work out on the treadmill; but off course now we want easier. I have a power treadmill (that I haven't been on in a few months, but will definitely get back to) but I have been on a friend's non- motorized before and it seemed pretty good to me. Just my 2 cents. Kris (GA) > > OK I have decided it is time for me to get more serious about getting in > better shape. Guest guest
Val, I'd vote for the treadmill. I can't use the bikes, in particular the seat types without my back starting to hurt within 10 minutes of getting on it. Besides it is mostly a lower body workout. The treadmill will exercise more muscles, including the tummy, while walking. Add in some arm movement and you're getting a lot more. Guest guest
But I am NOT is that back a shape, just have old back injuries (and new ones) and arthritis in hips. I think the treadmill will win out. When I walk outdoors ti hurts my hips a bit but nothing like trying to bend over does t my back. Peddling would be alot of movement in the area of my back that has the most pain so I think it would not work for me. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV My Ebay Jewelry Store (Closing after Xmas!!!) http://stores.ebay.com/valeriescrystalcreations http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/
Guest guest
Well there is no room in my budget for more thn $100 to spend on equipemnt that I am unsure I even CAN use. Even if it was the greatest thing on earth I couldn't afford more than that and i have accouts with Fingerhut and Sears will NOT give me one. SO that is out of the question. I am thinking cheap treatmill this year and maybe next year a better one, but with the money I owe right now I am going to be payign medical bills along with $350 a month for meds and I just don't have extra for exercise equipment. my food is costing me around $110 a week as well as I have to eat different and more expensive foods too. All this is adding up to alot more than I make.So I may just save up to buy a bettter bed so I won't mind staying in it all the time if I have to. Right now I am sleeping on a daybed that I have slept on for the last 4.5 years an I am thinking it is at least part of my back trouble. OUCH! Maybe I will save my money and just buy the waterbed I have eyed for the last year and a half I want. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV My Ebay Jewelry Store (Closing after Xmas!!!) http://stores.ebay.com/valeriescrystalcreations http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/

Guest guest
Val, check craigslist.org and look in your area for a used one. I have been looking for a treadmill as well. Everyone says, " you live in SD, the weather is great, go outside. " Yes, that part is true, BUT it is also extremely hilly. I have VERY steep hills in my neighborhood and no sidewalks, and people drive crazy! I figure a treadmill is less stress on my back (I have a herniated disk) and safer, so... I have found some in all price ranges. You might have better luck right after Christmas when people get upgraded, or move to a new item. Best of luck, Jackie > Well there is no room in my budget for more thn $100 to spend on > equipemnt that I am unsure I even CAN use. Guest guest
Hey Val, I was just remembering something I used to have and liked just as much as our treadmill (when we had it and it cost a LOT less than the treadmill. It was a rebounder...you know, a mini-trampoline? You get on that and just bounce to begin with. It is absolutely great for lymph drainage and it's very low impact so it's not hard on your back and you can work your arms at the same time. Mine cost all of $11 from Ebay! Check it out. It might be something to consider! wrote: Well there is no room in my budget for more thn $100 to spend on equipemnt that I am unsure I even CAN use. Guest guest
Well that won't wok either as I have a credit account with Fingerhut, who HAS better ones but I simply can't affod them. I do nto have cash for thisso I am putting it on hold for now. I bought a tiny fridge for my shop for my insulin instead. Which was sonmething else I needed anyway. I do not like that I have to carry it with me and cannot keep it refrigerated at work, so now I cnan just keep some there. I will just have to plug in my CD's and dance for exercise.. DON'T LOOK! Guest guest
Val, Like may of the others, you have helped me SO much,in a little over a month, I have too respond just out of care and respect! Do you live somewhere that walking outside is not an option? I think buying a good pair of walking shoes and that new water bed gets my vote! I also belieive yoga and/ or some really good stretching is a must before and after with back stuff. Also, if you have lower back issues , do some situps.... however, start slow, and easy! Guest guest
I have found that the skywalker is so much easier to use than a treadmill and it is a whole body workout. It swings with you instead of making you put pressure on hurting feet/legs. It is the only thing I can use with my bad ankle. I love water aerobics also if you have a Y or a gym near you that has a pool. We could find a nice guy to take care of Val and get her whatever she needs:) Anyone have a brother..uncle..? lol

Guest guest
When my ex mother-in-law was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, the doctor told her to get one of those little round trampolines and use it for half an hour every day. She did, and within six months I believe it was, her diabetes was gone completely. They had put her on some pill to take for the diabetes when she was first diagnosed and told her she might have to go to injections. That trampoline worked so well she never did have to go to the injections and the diabetes went totally away. She was in her late 50's at the time. So I can vouch for those things for sure! And they are very inexpensive. We had one about five years ago ourselves, and bought it for like 30 bucks brand new at Target or something. --- Whitmore wrote: > Hey Val, > > I was just remembering something I used to have and > liked just as much as our treadmill (when we had it > and it cost a LOT less than the treadmill. Guest guest
>>That trampoline worked so well she never did have to go to the injections and the diabetes went totally away.<< While this sounds good, I am not that sedentary. I am in better physical shape than most women at 40. I do wrestle with 150+ pound dogs and lift them into my tub and brush and stand and walk all day at work. It is not a desk job! LOL And unfortunately that window when my Diabetes might have been controlled by diet & exercise, my doctor took from me by not informing me of my high sugar three years ago. Also I have lost over 90 pounds the last year & a half so it is not like I haven't pulled the easy weight off. I have not been able to do sit ups since I was 15 years old for the pain they cause me. And I was an acrobat and a ballet dancer then. While grooming has kept me fairly fit for my age, it has also beat the HELL out of me over the years from injuries. Most groomers retire to a more sedentary job LONG before they have been at it as long as I have been. I only know ONE other groomer that has been grooming as long as I have out of the 2000 or so I know online! And she hasn't quite caught me by one year!
