Guest guest
Hi! I posted to this group when I was getting ready to go on MTX. It has now been 6 months and I am doing pretty good I think. I do get nausea at times but got my doc to give me a script for promethazine for the nausea. Normally they will give you promethazine when they give you percocet for pain so that you don't get nauseous. I figured that if it worked for one type of nausea, it would probably work for another. My doc gave me the script no problem! The nausea that I get comes on quickly and at first I begin to prespire a ton and then get the nausea (yuckies). Now I take a Promethazine with my morning meds and it will ward off any nausea for most of the day. (I can take it every 6 hours.) If anyone else gets nausea you might ask the doc if he'll give you a script for Promethazine. In addition to RA, I have Fibromyalgia, spondylolasthesis with 2 ruptured disks and 2 vertabrae out of place in the lower back, more ruptured disks in the cervical spine, migraine headaches, asthma, etc. You name it, my body is just falling apart. I tell most people that I have AFS, ... After Fifty Syndrome! LOL While I didn't get a positive ANA tests, I definitely had the signs of RA with swollen knees, wrists, fingers, etc. Plus my C-reactive protein level was 13.0 with the first blood tests and then jumped way up to 31.0 a few months after...(this is history before MTX.) I'm also on the Fentanol Durgesic) patch for pain which has helped tremendously along with epidural injections of both lower and upper spine every 3 months or so. I also take Maxalt for the migraines which has been a wonderful treatment for those nasty things. The one ... rather humorous thing about my treatments has been my hair! A couple months ago I had some thinning spots. However, my hairdresser said that she could see new growth. Two months later when I asked her if she saw any " bald spots) she said, " weeeeeeeeeelllllllll. " (I gather she did but din't want to bum me out. LOL) However in the past month my hair has gone from thin to frizzy, to looking like Einstein or like I put my finger in an electrical socket and each day it seems to change! My husband has commented that he never knows what I'll look like in the morning. Anyway, I thought I'd share with you some giggles with crazy hair and what has worked for me in hopes that those of you who do get nauseous from the meds will consider getting Promethazine. Good Luck! Judy
