Has anyone here had a staged/staggered TKR in one hospital stay? In other

words, did they TKR one day, wait 3-4 days and do the other TKR?

I made my orthopedic surgeon appointment today for April 30th...and if it

wasn't that I would have had to wait until October 8th. Unreal! Anyways, I

need both knees replaced and came across this idea of a staggered TKR and it

interested me. There seems to be less need for transfusion, and less

complications.

hi

My sister in law had a bilateral TKF at age 43 in April 2007......she

didn't want to deal with two surgeries, two hospitalizations and two

recuperations...

Her ortho surgeon initially suggested done one knee in April and one

knee in July...but, she still decided to have both knees replaced at

once....one

additional factor for her was the fact that she is single and would

need to be able to return to her job in a reasonable amount of time !

She had the surgery on April 19th...spent five days in the

hospital...and one week at a rehab hospital (because she lives

alone...otherwise they would have

let her go straight home) and then went home alone and made out very well :)

She works with severely handicapped children as a PT assistant...and

was able to return to full duty at her job in July....including

bending, kneeling and

transferring patients :)

Best of luck with whatever you decide....just thought this might be

useful to read about :)
