hi

Very logical to me : ) I am an only child.....my mother was an only

child.....I felt I " needed " to have

more than one child ! We have three children....the first two were

3 years apart...thought we were " done " !

Changed my mind....had our third child when the older two were 6 yrs

and 9 yrs old ! It has been wondeful

for all of us :) The youngest had the older two to play with him and

I had him to enjoy when they were at school !

I had did not have to do the sitting on the floor and floor play with

him, because the older kids enjoyed it!

And they were great about taking him outside to play, dig in the

sandbox, etc for me ! So, actually, it was

easier on me physically then when I had the older two ! I'm guessing

that if you had your tubal ligation in '97,

your child is at least 11 years old ? ? If so,he/she could be a great

help and will benefit from being an " older "

sibling, while also making it easier for you :)

good luck....I truly believe in listening to your heart about babies :)

Shadi, those aren't bad reasons for trying for another baby. If that's how your

heart is leading you and you and your husband can arrange for post partum help

for you, I think it's a great idea. I'm 17 weeks and still on prednisone and

Enbrel. I don't have joint damage, but I do have aggressive RA as measured by

disease activity and antiCCP status. The studies that has shared say that

RA patients seem to do fine during delivery if they don't have any pelvic

problems. If you do have pelvic pain, you could always talk to your OB about an

elective c-section.

Given your joint damage and your young age, you could always do a couple of

joint replacements and then transition to a pregnancy plan after you've

recovered. Regardless of when you do surgery, someone like a post partum doula

could be really helpful. She can help you settle in, make light meals, throw a

load of laundry in, and help with breast feeding. In fact, a doula plus a

housekeeping service would ensure that you can rest when the baby rests.

Best wishes, Kate F

[ ] Advanced RA and Pregnancy

I know we have had some ladies on here have RA and pregnant...and I have a

question :) Has anyone on the list dealt with a pregnancy and postpartum while

having advanced RA? Like a stage III or a stage IV RA? I worry more about the

actual delivery process and how you dealt with a newborn with active RA.

I am 32 and have had RA for 12 years. Unfortunately, some joints are long

overdue to be replaced, namely my knees and some fingers. My wrists are just

about ready to self fuse. Right now I am maintained on 4mg pred. and Lodine

until my RD thinks he can talk me into Rituxin since that is the last thing to

try.

I had my tubes tied in 1997 and reconsidering, THINKING about having a tubal

ligation reversal. There are other factors to consider aside from RA, like our

only child is a Type 1 Diabetic. I am considering genetic counselling beforehand

if we do decide to proceed. However, being an only child, and my husband being

an only child I would love for my son to have some family after we are gone.

Perhaps a bad reason, but it is my own. I worry about such things.

Have you considered adopting an older, needy child?

There are some advantages, as well as you would be rescuing someone....

Good luck,
