Guest guest
Greetings, I am on several cat yahoo groups, but this is my first human one. My older brother (9 years older) was just diagnosed with LBD. He is 65 and has been an alcoholic all of his adult life. I have another brother who is 69 and apparently healthy, and a younger brother 54, with Crohn's disease. My mother had Alzheimer's, diagnosed in about 1996, she died at 87, in 2004. My mother had 5 sisters, at least 3 of them also had Alzheimer's, although her 2 brothers did not. My father did not have cognitive dysfunction except towards the end of his life, probably the result of a number of small strokes and he died at about 84. My father had a sister who towards the last few years of her life hallucinated bizarre events where she was the hero, and became convinced her daughter and son-in-law were trying to kill her. She died in 2005 at 89. After reading a description of LBD, I'm wondering if that is what she had. My father had 7 siblings as well, but don't know how they died, except that some of them died by stroke and one from complications of alcoholism. Anyway, I'd never heard of this disease until hearing my brother had it. I'm here to learn more about it, both to help my brother and his wife, but also because of the implications of it appearing in myself or my other 2 brothers. Needless to say, I'm bummed, but probably every newbie to this list is. Merlin (despite my name, I'm a girl if gender inheritance is of any importance). Guest guest
Dear Merlin, Welcome to the group nobody should ever have to belong to..... that being said, you have come to the right place for lots of good information, suggestions, and emotional support. I have been a member for several years now, and the advice and support - and friendship - have been invaluable.
