In Marla’s recent post giving her update she

said in part, reporting on her meeting with the urologist:

<SNIP> He then discussed penile rehab and told

him that he had a patient go home after the catheter was removed and have sex

that night. He told with his age and stamina, he will have little to no

problems with erections or holding his bladder. <SNIP>

Whilst I have no desire to worry Marla any more than

she is, I’d have to query both parts of this statement. I know from some

of the experiences of men on my Yana website that they have achieve erection

early on after surgery – some while the catheter was still in place –

but none has claimed to have had penetrative sex so soon after surgery. I would

have thought there would be some concern about damage since the surgery wounds

would not have healed by then?

I think too that no surgeon can give an absolute

assurance that any man will have little or no problems with erection after

surgery. Apart from not knowing at this stage the precise position of any

tumours (and therefore whether bilateral nerve sparing will be possible) it is

very clear from everything that I have read that every man and his gland are

different.

I hope all goes well for Marla and , but I would

caution them against raising their hopes too high, based on what this doctor

has said.

All the best

physician, I am painfully aware that most of the decisions we make with regard to

prostate cancer are made with inadequate data "
