, what a wonderful turn of events for your father and you! What comes to

mind for me is clearing the pneumonia and if in fact there was also a urinary

tract infection cleared by the antibiotics he must have been on, or any other

secondary infection, clearing them could have led to vast improvement. Hoping

this improvement continues for you. It is amazing how much infection can impact

our loved ones negatively and this could be a perfect example of that. I do

hope that's what was at play.

I would be interested to hear any other thoughts on this dramatic improvement.

diagnosis of DLB. He declined terribly quickly and only 10 days ago we thought

it might be soon he would be leaving us. He could not walk, he couldn't hold

himself upright on the bed even holding the rail. His swallowing was worse and

he was hospitalized for pnemonia for the 2nd time in 4 months. He couldn't

transfer without complete help, was sleeping a lot, speaking was difficult and

hard to understand. His depth perception was off and mentally he was truely

failing.

change. His voice is normal and clear annunciation. He is WALKING almost

unaided by walker, his thought process is clearer, his face looks round open and

expressive .... I love my father very much but I am completely baffled. We were

told of the cycles of DLB but my impression was it would be some better some

worse but not an 85% turn around.

HI ! We went through this twice last fall with my mom. In

Sep she was hospitalized after becoming so confused she didn't know

who any of us were, couldn't feed herself,etc.. She was in renal failure and

once her kidneys were functioning right, she got better ( still not great, but

way better!). Then just before Christmas she got so confused she could only

thrash her legs and say repeatedly " socks on " . That time she had a UTI, and once

it was cleared up, she got better again. In January she became much more lucid

and like the old Mom that we all know and love so much. She still has occasional

hallucinations, but dresses herself, feeds herself and is even reading again! I

don't know how long this will last, we're just enjoying it while it does. This

disease is truly a roller coaster and we're on a flat stretch of track for now,

it could change tomorrow!

A big hug to you! Ellen
