Guest guest
Hi, ...welcome to the list...there are other sweeteners that don't use aspartane that are widely available. Splenda is one. Vicki << To make my situation all the more complicated, I'm allergic to Aspartame (Nutrasweet), so my diet is really limited. (I get nasty migranes from aspartame.) Anyway, hello and I look forward to talking with all of you. __ >>

Guest guest
>Have you tried Splenda? No, but I'm afraid to try any other fake-sugars. The headaches are too much to deal with (a single piece of gum with aspartame can give me a 3-day migrane), so the last thing I want to do is experiment. I'll keep that in mind though. Thanks. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp
Guest guest
, splenda was one of the many products I have tried. And it gave me a real bad headache just like the rest of them did. Sorry! Becky

Guest guest
Thanks, Vicki. About the other sweeteners... I'm hesitant to try other sweeteners because of the possible side-effects. I can't stand the migranes, so I'm pretty afraid to try the other fake ones. I have done some research and they're all (except saccharine) listed as being toxic to some people, so it's really not worth the risk for me. (A three-day migrane from a lousy piece of gum is enough to scare me away for good.) >From: whimsy2@... >Reply-To: diabetes_int >To: diabetes_int >Subject: Re: New Member >Date: Wed, 24 Oct 2001 14:53:12 EDT > >Hi, ...welcome to the list...there are other sweeteners that don't >use >aspartane that are widely available. Guest guest
Hello >put me on insulin. insulin is no big deal. I grew up with a sister that was Type 1 for 45+ years now and swore I would never stick myself but when the time came once I got past the first one it was easy >allergic to Aspartame me too only it make me high then I get the headache and an upset stomach. Splenda is not bad and so far I haven't reacted to it but just cutting back will make a big difference. watching carbs and fats are just as important. I noted in several other posts that folks have recommended Splenda to you as another sweetener, and you replied that you can't use " fake sugar " without problems. Splenda is not " fake sugar " , it's actually real sugar with a molecule removed. Many who can't use Aspartame have no problems at all with Splenda. It would be a shame if you denied yourself a solution. -- Dave - 3:42:04 PM T2 - 8/98 Glucophage, U & H A 4th generation Diabetic - Davors Daily Aphorism: Support bacteria - it's the only culture some people have! --

Well, considering I am doing everything right and my sugars are not changing, I don't have much choice... I've done some research on Splenda and it is listed with Nutrasweet/Aspartame as one that is toxic to some people, so I am not willing to try it. (I get migranes from the aspartame, and I will NOT intentionally subject myself to that if I can help it.) I have a meeting with a dietician/nurse in the near future... Maybe I'll get some ideas there. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp
