Guest guest
Hi Joy, Actually I was on MTX for 3 1/2 years and this January, in fact New years Eve, I got sick with a bronchial infection. I went to the doctor and he treated me with antibiotic ZPack...well, it never got better. I went through another ZPack and 3 inhalers and breathing treatments and about 10 bottles of cough medicine...finally, I decided to stop taking the MTX on 2/9/08..At the same time I saw Larry King and the actress Kathleen was on there talking about her RA. I researched on the computer to see what she was on, she wouldn't say on TV, and found out about Minocycline...which I had never heard of before. I immediately called my Rheumatologist for an appointment and when I went to him I asked him if he knew of Minocycline. He said yes that he had some patients on it and asked me if i wanted to give it a try. I said yes and that was that... I started taking it on 2/28/08. I had been in a major flare from going off the MTX...so I had a few more days of pain...I am now in my 7th or 8th day of waking up with absolutely NO PAIN...I haven't had pain free days like this since before being DX'd in 2/02. I also stopped my NSAID, so all I take is the Minocycline. If I can answer any other questions, please ask. Guest guest
I get a lot of upper respiratory stuff too and my doc switched me off humira to mtx about 6 months ago. I have had more infections since I started on all the RA meds but I did have infections before just seemed to get over them quicker. I have RA/and PA and when I asked the doc about the minocycline she said it wouldn't do anything for the PA. So I really don't know what to think. My Psoriasis is under control but I don't want it to get worse either.
