Guest guest
I have had low Thyroid and under treatment since age 10. Been taking meds. since then. I have my thyroid tested every 3 months, plus monthly blood work for the RA, liver, etc. I also take 5 mg. of Prednisone each day, for over 5 years. I am currently starting to try again to get off of this med. It is so hard sometimes, when you are so very tired, to try and figure out is it the RA or Thyroid doing this. Sorry to hear you have Thyroid Cancer. So much going on, you must feel like you are going in all directions at once. I am dealing with skin cancer, so I know what you are going through. I just try to get through each day as best I can. Who said life was easy...... Bless You, and I wish you a good day. Barbara [ ] RA and Thyroid Cancer I'm lucky enough to have two major diseases - RA and thyca. Actually the RA is what causes most of the symptoms but thyca is more dangerous. I'm currently taking 10 mg of Prednisone daily. What I thought might be interesting to this group is the link between thyroid hormone and RA symptoms. I have no thyroid so I have to take thyroid hormone replacement. Currently I've been taken off of thyroid hormone and my RA has gotten much worse. I wonder if there is any correlation between thyroid hormone levels and RA symptoms for other people whose thryoid are not producing enough hormone but they don't realize it? Anyone had there thyroid hormone levels checked? ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile. Guest guest
Lack of adequate thyroid hormone alone (without RA) causes joint and muscle pain. Why are you off thyroid replacement? You need to be on it for life. The two biggest problems with thyroid treatment or lack there off. Is many doctors only rely on the TSH test and don't look at the symptoms. The second issue, being told you are " in range " or " normal " when you still have symptoms and your hormone replacement is not increased. Again not looking at symptoms. The TSH has been the worst thing to happen to thyroid treatment. Doctors rely only on the labs and not the symptoms to treat people. People were treated much better before the TSH test. Back then if quacked like a duck, it was a duck. Kinda like those that are " sero-negative " RA. Too many of them are not listened to. Did your doctor do that? My endo regularly checks my thyroid levels and I am still taking my Levoxyl. Debbie L >
Guest guest
Hi Sorry to hear of your illnesses. your message was interesting to me because about 8 years ago i had 3/4 of my thyroid removed due to suspicious nodules...turned out benign. i have never been on replacements because they were not needed. i used to have my levels checked, but as time passed i stopped. I started having symptoms of ra about a year ago after my daughters' birth. now i'm wondering if the fluctuation of hormones after pregnancy and the thyroid are related...i'm going to have this checked. P.s. 2 of my childhood friends also had thyroid cancer...you don't happen to live in NJ?? Ibarra <ilovfiveks22@...> wrote: I'm lucky enough to have two major diseases - RA and thyca. Guest guest
I'm sorry but I don't understand how you are functioning. The thyroid is the master glad. Without it everything slows down. Yes, often in pregnancy you need less, but you still need some thyroid hormone. Thyroid hormone and the s-e-x hormones are linked too. Please take a look at a thyroid symptom check list...I would be you have symptoms and don't even think about it being your thyroid. Guest guest
Melynda, The problem with being told your thyroid is fine...is so many times it's not.. IE you need thyroid replacement or need more thyroid replacement. I suggest that everyone use a thyroid symptom check list when they visit their doctor. Make sure that the doctors check antibodies, and the Free T3 and Free T 4. Too many are blown off about symptoms, please, please , please do not stand for " normal " , " fine " or " in range " ...if I settled for that I'd still be suffering. I was undiagnosed for 4 years! http://www.thyroid-info.com Lot's of really good info there! Guest guest
I have been on thyroid meds for 30 plus years. Tests were always adequate but many symptoms prevailed. Thanks to this web site, I stopped synthroid and switched to armour thyroid. In 48 hours I was feeling better. My heat intolerance improved. I am less " itchy " . It feels like a miracle. Discuss with your Doctor. I have learned synthroid is synthetic and armour comes from an animal. Good Luck. Guest guest
I second Armour Thyroid! Unfortunately the doctors are brain washed by lies that the reps for Synthroid have told. Guest guest
I had Graves disease in 1988 or that is when the radiated my thyroid and I went on Synthroid. I think you will find a lot of the people here have had problems or have low or no thyroid. It is considerd another auto-immune response. My Rhu still says if they can ecer find the link to all the auto-immune diseases they will have the cure for all of them. Guest guest
Good point, My soap box is on drug companies and how much money they extort from individuals. They know they have us by the hair cause we need what they have. It just pisses me off. Guest guest
I'm going to case and point hypothyroidism and what the drug company teaches in med school. The teach to use the TSH test, it's the gold standard...who case about symptoms. The makers of the TSH also make Synthroid. They teach them how to keep people undermedicated, by using the TSH and throwing out symptoms..so they can sell there anti-depressants and cholesterol drugs. Both of which are not needed with you are on proper thyroid replacement. Stepping off soap box!
