Guest guest
Hi all - my mom is now refusing to take any medication. She is sure that everyone is trying to poison her. She had stopped eating and drinking anything but eventually got so hungry she decided that would be ok. Any thoughts or ideas? It's been almost 2 days now. Thanks
Guest guest
you can use a pill crusher and mix the meds with apple sauce... but thought your mom was on too many meds anyway -- maybe this will help... or has her meds changed already -- as I recall she was on too much Seroquel and unresponsive... > > Hi all - my mom is now refusing to take any medication. Guest guest
Pill crushing has been tried - she's too aware for that. The biggest problem is she didn't finish the course of antibiotics for the UTI, and she does need to take her thyroid medication. > > > > Hi all - my mom is now refusing to take any medication. Guest guest
If your first concern is the antibiotics you may want to check with her doctor and see if any antibiotic comes in liquid form and can be mixed with her drinks. Guest guest
Hi everyone. Thanks for your help. Mom decided (at least this morning) to take her pills. She is currently at an inpatient geri-psych unit (admitted late Friday) at Mt. Auburn Hospital Wyman Center in Cambridge. They have started her on Depakote and are trying to simplify her meds. Will see how it all goes. > > Hi all - my mom is now refusing to take any medication. She is sure that everyone is trying to poison her. Guest guest
So sorry that you're facing this. I remember my Dad doing the same thing when in the nursing home at times. The personal care workers were at times afraid of him, because he was still a big man and could be violent. But fortunately for us, my appearance often changed things. I remember one morning coming to see him and he was sitting on a bench in the hallway, wearing only his underwear (my normal Dad would NEVER be seen in public that way). He had scared away the person trying to dress him and get him ready for the day, hadn't eaten, etc. But once I came on the scene and asked him what the heck he was doing sitting there in his drawers, he was my warm, friendly Dad and let the workers do what they needed to do. I'm not sure if this is a LBD thing or if it was just my Dad's thing, but a change of scenery/people could work wonders for him. Amazing how this horrible disease causes this paranoia. > > Hi all - my mom is now refusing to take any medication. She is sure that everyone is trying to poison her.
