Guest guest
Hey Tracie- I am just going to but in here., but saw your post and help from so thought I would add to this as wish I had, had a better advance and heads up. My son who is in college 3 yrs now, his last yr. of H.S we went to the parent/student night for college bound kids, 2 1/2 hrs., got alot of speakers from various fields, and at end of night did not get the help I needed except to apply for the FASE, which has told you. But I wanted to give you a heads up on this application is very invloved, it got kicked back to me and also, my sis-in-law, who's son was applying same time. It was to do with the income on both of our issues, we both are remarried, very confusing on who's income they wanted, turned out they wanted my and my husband not his father's income which didn't make sense to me. And the other thing is DON " T lose the pin # they will give you, as it carry's through, the whole college time. My son now and has lived on his own, he is very bright and tried the application himself as on his own he is 23, and it came back several times, he can not figure out why, and needs college counselor help but has not gotten in there yet as his classes leave him no time the way his campus is set up travel's by car to different campus sites! I just suggest starting the application the minute he/she is out of school. You can have a deadline time also when applying for each simester. Hope this helps. Guest guest
I have completed 2 FAFSAs for my daughter and 2 for myself so far, and I have never had any problem at all. Just have your last income tax papers (1040 forms) with you when you fill it out online and you should have all the information you need. Just follow the questions as they come up on the screen. Once it is filled out, they tell you right away how much you need to contribute, or if you don't need to contribute to the tuition. Then they send the info to all the schools you list on it, and the schools will then contact you about financial aid at that college. There are many scholarships online. Just do a google search for education scholarships. Once you get on a couple of scholarship lists, you will get stuff in your email all the time. Re: [ ] Re: Financial aid for college age kids. Guest guest
Hi Tracie, I have completed the FASFAs for the past few years for hubby who and for my oldest daughter. I do mine as soon as I finish my taxes which is usually around mid february. The earlier the better to get the best financial aid as well as to be considered for many inhouse (college specific) scholorships. So far we have had good luck. My oldest is in private christian university here in Texas and her sister will be attending possibly the same or the sister baptist university depending on the financial aid package she is offered. We started our scholorship applications back in August...and we have continued as more scholorship info has become available. Both girls and hubby attend private schools which by Texas standard are considered really expensive. You daughters school should be holding sessions on financial aid, applications and college planning all throughout the junior and senior year of school. We even have a counselor that is devoted to the needs of graduating students. We have been VERY lucky and have gotten excellent financial aid packages with very little if anything out of pocket once you add in the scholorships. Key thing here is good grades, be able to write excellent scholorship papers and stay informed. Good luck....LOL...next year we will ALL be in college!!
