Guest guest
The guidence department at her school should be able to answer all your questions. You can also visit the website FAFSA.com to get alot of questions answered, they are the federal student loan service. mary [ ] Financial aid for college age kids OT help????? My daughter has a year left of high school and is taking her SATs in June and we are getting all this college information and I am SOOOO lost. We have no money for her to go to college so I was wondering if anyone knows how you go about applying for grants and scholarships, etc., to help her. She is our oldest of three so obviously I have no idea what I am doing. The good thing is that I will learn now and hopefully be better prepared with the other two kids. With me being disabled and my husband's income ain't great when it comes to supporting five people with the prices of fuel here in Maine, I am not sure which way to turn or to guide her for help with this whole thing. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I would be happy with website names. Sorry to bother you all with this OT issue, but I did not know where else to turn. Guest guest
Tracie, filling out your FAFSA is the big deal, and you do that as soon as possible. Chas was fortunate enough to get lots of scholarship money b/c of her GPA, volunteer work, (i.e. she worked her butt off, basically.) She also got a Be On Time loan, which becomes a grant if they graduate on time and keep their GPA up. E me off list and I will try to remember to ask her for some info, she's actually home on spring break this week. I'm a broke single mom so I know where you're at. --- In , " tracierae143 " <tracierae143@...> wrote: > > My daughter has a year left of high school and is taking her SATs in > June and we are getting all this college information and I am SOOOO > lost. Guest guest
Start with these: www.collegeboard.com (if she took PSATs or SATs, she will have access to this through her school). www.fastweb.com (this is for parents and students to look for grants, scholarships, etc) www.fafsa.ed.gov (to be eligible for state and federal aid, you have to complete a FAFSA) These will get you started. I've been doing this for 2 years already! Feel free to email if you'd like more info... Guest guest
Tracie In the same bout here. My son is in college. Luckily they have an A+ scholarship that he got the first two years free if me maintains a B grade average in Junior College. This year my dd is a junior and she wants to go to a four year college. They do have a lot of scholarships you can apply for online, the FASA has to be filled out first to see how you qualify.. You do that online now too. Have her go to college nights and talk to counselors too. The library has tons of info too. Good luck! Guest guest
I'm finishing up my last year in college, so I've been where you and your child are. First things first, contact the school if you haven't already. Talk to the financial aid dept. Some schools have an early deadline for the FAFSA to be filled out. Purdue University's deadline is March 1st. Make sure you get it filled out on time. Next, when you are filling it out, make sure you have both yours and your child's income tax forms handy. It really helps. The application isn't that bad, my mom always had me do hers, my sister's and mine since the time I was in Jr. High. A high speed internet connection helps, otherwise it takes forever to finish. Next, keep the PIN number they give you, you will use it for all of your FAFSA applications in the future. If you do lose it, don't freak out, you can apply for a new one, I think it takes about 2 weeks to get one (I went through this, it's really not bad). Also, talk to your child's high school and college counselors, they will know of scholarships. Some scholarships aren't advertised, but based on the school, some will just appear. There have been many years that I have received scholarships that I had never heard of or applied for, just because Purdue knew that I met the requirements. Also, google scholarships, and a lot of national scholarships will come up. It is a stressful time, but don't let it harm your health. You will get through this, and you will be fine. Hope this helps!! Autumn
