Congrats on not smoking! I know how hard it is... I quit four years

ago and everytime I get a new symptom I still think of how nice it

would be to have a cigerette. Then I remember how nice it will be not

to add lung cancer into the mix... Keep up the good work, its not

easy, but its worth your life!

I can't believe you take 400mg of Lyrica... Wow! I have been given

50mg a day... I can't imagine 400..

Best of luck on not smoking... You can do it!

Phyllis, it's wonderful to read how successful Lyrica is for you! And

congratulations on quitting smoking, as a smoker I know first-hand how tough

that is and you have my full admiration for accomplishing something so

difficult!!

Well, I apologize. lol It's not 400 mg of Lyrica. It's 50 mg 4 times a day,

changed to 100 mg twice a day. So it's really only 200 mg a day. After I read

your email I thought, huh? And went and checked my bottle. lol Chalk it up to

writing before coffee.

And thanks on the smoking! It's the hardest thing I've ever done. But I'm

determined.

Phyllis,

Congrads on quitting smoking. I am on Lyrica too and I have found

some relief. I have gained 15lbs in just a little over a month. I

am waiting to hear back from my rheumy on that. I have a huge family

history of HBP and diabetits and I want to avoid them at all costs.

If a side effect is weight gain, it is a given that I will gain

weight. I gained about 25 lbs when I was on high does of predisone,

another 15 when I was on zyprexa for my bi-polar and now another 15

on lyrica. I am soo glad to hear that lyrica is working for you.

Hi ,

My rheumy told me it is much more important to treat the illnesses, get them

stable and worry about the weight then. I admit the weight is bothering me, and

I'm not using what he said as an excuse or anything, but it is really good

advice I think.

There is a really good chance of bumping the Lyrica dosage down with time. Your

family sounds a bit like my family, if a med can cause a weight gain, I

guarantee it will be here in East TN. lol I understand about the BP meds also.

Bipolar runs strong in my family, my daughter, my grandson, my sister, my dad.

That almost sounds like a line from Star Wars, just substitute the force, for

Bipolar. ha ha Dumb joke, but I thought it so I wrote it.

Zyprexa was a dream medication for my family. But it does cause weight gain in

alot of cases. What meds do you take now? If you don't mind sharing that info.

If it's personal, please know that is ok.

Phyllis,

Let's see, (excuse the miss spellings) I take plaquinel, diclofenic,

sulfasalazine for RA, lyrica for fibromyalgia, geodon for bi-polar,

anitriptyline and citalopram for depression, vicodin for pain (I have

a hernia), and lorazapan for PTSD, anxiety.

Almost 2 years ago, I had a minor laparoscopic surgery done where my

bowel was puntured. I went septic and I was in a coma for a month

and another 5 months recovering from the sepsis. That is why I have

PTSD, anxiety, and the hernia. Just a little back info on my

situation.

My doctors thought I just suffered from depression for the longest

time until I saw a new therapist to help me w/ my PTSD and she said I

might be bi-polar. I started on bi-polar medications and I saw the

difference right away. I don't know if it runs in my family because

certain things are never discussed. My family has a hard time

understanding the differnece between RA and OA. So they don't know

how I have RA or bi-polar.

I have a call in to my rheumy (out of town until Friday) so I am just

waiting to hear back from her to see if I should stay on lyrica. I

would hate to discontinue it because I am finding relief. When I

started taking it, I watched my diet, reduced my portions, excerise

everyday (regardless of the pain) for 30-40 min...I still gained

weight. I am already scared of having any further surgeries, the last

thing I want is to have gastric bypass from the weight gain from

certain medications I have taken over the years. I am afraid if I

continue to take lyrica, I would become a gastric bypass patient

soon. I take 150mg bid...I didn't notice a difference until I started

the higher dose. All I can do is wait and see what my rheumy has to

say.

Hi ,

Sounds like you have been through the ringer! With meds, and with medical

issues. I'm sorry you have had such a rough time and it sounds like you don't

have much family support which makes everything more difficult.

I hate to see you have to stop a medication that has helped you though. Perhaps

the doc will recommend you bump the lyrica back a bit. Everyone is different

and you may be able to find a dosage that gives you the relief you need without

too many side effects.

I know I have to be careful about suggesting things. My grandson lives with dh

and me and he is bipolar. I'm really careful about his medications but I also

know that sometimes, meds can be tweaked just a bit to be more effective for the

individual. I'm NOT saying to ever do this without a doctor's ok though and you

are doing the right thing by putting in a call to your doctor. Hopefully, you

will get some good information on Friday!

Phyllis,

My husband is really supportive, I have him, this web board, and one

of my really good friends has lupus and we are eachothers support

system. I am lucky in that regard and I am lucky to be alive. Most

people don't live through sepsis. I have a great team of doctors who

see me as a puzzle to solve at times. I will let you know what my

rheumy says when she calls me back.

I take 900 mg. of Lyrica for fibro. It still is not working. I take loritabs

for pain. I too take Geodon for bi-polar, Cymbalta for depression.

Geodon has been wonderful for me. I finally got the pain meds approved where

I'm living and am pain free for the first time in 5 months.

God Bless,

Chris

I was taken off Lyrica by my rheumatologist for a

simple 10 pound weight gain due to the fact that it is

very bad for pain, and bilateral joint knee effusions.

In some cases, people are able to lose the weight

they gained taking the med, in other cases, they were

not. My doctor didn't want to take that chance, and I

am fine with that since my main issues that seem to be

more severe lately is the RA instead of my FMS.

Phyllis,

I have had 2 knee surgeries (both on my left knee). I still haven't

been able to loose the weight I have gained when I was on predisone 7

years ago. Some people loose the weight, when they go off the

medication. Unfortunately, I am not one of them. I just I will just

wait and see.
