It's probably the methorexate I have been upped to 8 of them a week and I

have had a lot of nausea but too it could be the combination of med's that she

takes.

before the plaquenil, but the doctor pulled it probably because it is usually

the least effective of the three.

I just started methotrexate again and it has diminished my appetite nicely

throughout the week. It was better than the last time I tried and was just

plain nauseated and sick for 4 - 5 days. Remember that MTX is quite the toxic

drug, they use it to induce abortions and to treat a variety of cancers (in

higher doses) such as lymphoma. So yes, it can cause nausea.

It is nice to hear she does not have joint damage but as you said, it has

only been six months. Unfortunately, she will get there at some time and at

some degree. Hopefully her RA isn't extremely aggressive and she can lead a

full

and active life.

Folic acid supps and several pain meds and a sleeping pill, when

past two weeks +. Has anyone had that reaction to any of the above

meds? Her rheumy took her off the Placquinil on Thursday and said

taking her off the Methatraxate would be next if this didn't help in

two weeks. So far it hasn't helped much at all. She has been able to

eat a couple meals without feeling ill after several bites since

Thursday but the nausea is still dominating her life. Just wondering

if anyone else had dealt with this problem. On the plus side, her

inflammation has deminished by over 50% since she was diagnosed about

6 months ago and she has never had any joint damage.

Thanks,

Hi,

I get a lot of nausea too on the MTX, however, I take Compazine

pills periodically for bad spells and this does help. What helps

the most is drinking lots of water around the time of my MTX dose

for that first 24 hours anyway and also salty things seem to help,

weird but true. The MTX is helping me too so I don't want to quit

it. We have to remember it was originally a chemotherapy drug and

most chemotherapy drugs cause nausea. Granted we are not on those

mega doses, but still, I am sure it will cause the nausea side

effect in a lot of people. Try these little tricks mentioned above

before quitting okay? I think it is really worth a try. i really

noticeif I don't drink my water. Good luck.
