Indian Journal of Medical Ethics (SECOND NBC 2007) Dates: December 6, 7 and 8, 2007 Venue: Convention Centre, NIMHANS (National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences), Bangalore, Karnataka , India Conference theme MORAL AND ETHICAL IMPERATIVES OF HEALTH CARE TECHNOLOGIES: Scientific, legal and socioeconomic perspectives on use and misuse Conference sub-themes Technologies in medical practice Research on health care technologies Health care technologies, public health and policies The National Bioethics Conference (NBC) is a broad, multi- disciplinary, independent, participatory and national bioethics platform of the Indian Journal of Medical Ethics (IJME). The first NBC was organised in collaboration with 20 Indian institutions in November 2005 in Mumbai. As of March 3, 2007 33 institutions have joined hands and constituted the Organising Committee (OC) for the Second NBC. Membership to the OC will remain open to institutions interested in joining till March 31, 2007. CALL FOR ABSTRACTS FOR PAPER PRESENTATIONS AND PROPOSALS FOR HOLDING WORKSHOPS Last date for submission: May 15, 2007 Date by which authors will be informed of selection: July 31, 2007 Abstracts are invited for paper presentations and proposals for holding workshops at the Second NBC on the topics related to the conference theme as well as on any topic in bioethics. They may be submitted on the website of IJME ( www.ijme.in ) or sent by email ( nbc.ijme@... ). All abstracts and proposals will be reviewed by a scientific committee. A total of 48 abstracts for papers and 30 for poster presentations; and eight proposals for workshops will be selected. The concept note, on the theme and sub-themes of the conference as well as the topics on which the papers may be prepared, is available in the January 2007 issue of IJME or on the website at www.ijme.in/2007CN.htm The conference programme Five plenary sessions will feature four keynote addresses each by Indian experts. The inaugural and closing sessions will be devoted to the main theme, and the rest to the sub-themes. Three academic Sessions will contain presentations of four papers each in four parallel groups. There will also be a fifth group in each for poster presentations. © Two workshop sessions will have four parallel workshops in each session. (d) One session with a maximum of four parallel panel discussions will be conducted by international bioethics experts. (e) Two media sessions will screen bioethics films, followed by discussions with experts. (f) In addition, there will be five pre-conference satellite meetings. Conference registration fees For all three days: On or before August 31, 2007: Rs 800 (or US $ 20), thereafter: Rs 1,000 (or US $ 25). Spot registration for one day : Rs 500 (or US $ 10). Full cost registration (includes accommodation and in- country economy air travel): Rs 90,000 (or US $ 2,000). All categories of registration are inclusive of conference material, food (lunch and tea) and access to all sessions. Accommodation Accommodation is available starting at Rs 800 per night (twin, multiple sharing) but must be booked early. Please contact the Secretariat for further details. Sponsorships A limited number of full or partial travel/accommodation sponsorships are available for those whose abstracts or proposals are selected by the Scientific Committee.
