Guest guest
My mother has been diagnosed with LBD and I have been struggling to come to terms with it. She lives independently in a " continuing care community " and can still handle the normal activities of daily living, although I've recently taken over her finances. She has been having many visual hallucinations which, of course, she perceives as being real, and she has been telling her neighbors about them. As a result, her neighbors have begun to " shun " her because they don't know how to react to a person who sounds crazy. People no longer invite her to dinner, or they decline her invitations, and she is becoming increasingly lonely. She refuses to take Seroquel or Trazodone. The Alzheimer's Association has support groups for AD caregivers, but I went to one and it seemed as if nobody really understood the persistent hallucinations and the fact that, unlike AD, LBD doesn't progress in neat, predictable stages. Anyway...does anyone know of an LBD support group in the greater Boston area? Or is anyone interested in starting one? From what I've been reading here (and in books about LBD), this is going to be a long road and I am already incredibly stressed that my smart, talented mother has been " disappearing. " It would really help to share with people in person, maybe once a month or so.
