Guest guest
, my husband has been out of work for 2 years with disability due to colon cancer. He has still not got approve for disability. How long did it take for y ou to be approved and what state are you from? Did you get an attorney? thanks ritawages@... [ ] Medicaid cuts I was watching my local news last night and they reported that Social Security will be bankrupt by 2041 and Medicare will loose all it's money by 2014. I am really worried since I just got approved for SSDI and I am should be eligbale for Medicaid. There was an article in the Rocky Mountain News today on the recent cuts to Medicaid. Under the new rules issued by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services last year, nearly $15 billion would have to be cut from Medicaid over the next five years. I am new to paying close attention to SSI, Medicare and Medicaid. I know soical security is a " hot " topic, how does SSDI factor into all if this? Do I need to be worried? I am hoping that I will still be eligable for Medicaid, but with all the recent cuts, I don't know if they will change the guidelines on who is eligable. I think that differs from state to state. All of you are so helpful and knowledgeable on every question I have so I thought I would throw this out there. ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Looking for last minute shopping deals? Guest guest
Rita, It took me 6 months from when I filed the paperwork until I got the approval letter. (I still haven't recevied my 1st month) I had all my medical records for the past 2 years which I took personally to my local office. I hired a lawyer from the beginning. I didn't want to wait to get denied then get a lawyer. I don't know if that helped my claim, but I figured it couldn't hurt. They approved my onset date and I will be getting back pay. I live in Colorado. I don't know why some people get approved quickly and others it takes years. A friend of mine who has lupus and MS, filed around the same time I did and she got denied. I would hire an attorney...I think it really helped me. > > , my husband has been out of work for 2 years with disability due to colon cancer. He has still not got approve for disability. Guest guest
Rita, I would get a lawyer if you haven't already got one. They can file an appeal and for a hearing to hear your husband's case before a judge. I don't know what else I can tell you. Have you filed for any sort of hardship programs for medical/food assistance programs in your state? Any little bit helps. > > i am glad things worked out for you. jan 06 he had colon cancer with ilestomy. 02 heart bypass surgery. 04--brain hemorrage with seizures, born with thalassemia, just to name and few and has been turned down 2 times. it has been 27 months since we have had a check. he is only in his early 50's. they say ga takes the longest state in the country. we can barely buy our meds. they tell us to sell our home. i have ra and had to retire 02. it gets very depressing. rita > > > > [ ] Medicaid cuts > > > > I was watching my local news last night and they reported that > Social > > Security will be bankrupt by 2041 and Medicare will loose all it's > > money by 2014. Guest guest
we have an appeal in now. they tell us to sale our home and we can get financial help. Georgia is running between 2-5 years for approval. I got mine in two years and then this all started happening to him. he has had cancer, ilestomy, heart bypass, brain bleed with seizures, macular degeneration and they ruptured his prostate and bladder doing a cath in the hospital when he was septic. since jan 06 it has been a nightmare. we can barely look after each other. i have a group called ALLSUP that suppose to be helping us. georgia is a poor state and hard to get help. rita [ ] Medicaid cuts > > > > I was watching my local news last night and they reported that > Social > > Security will be bankrupt by 2041 and Medicare will loose all it's > > money by 2014. Guest guest
Rita, I hear where your coming from. I had a laparoscopic procedure where my bowel was punctured and I went septic. I spent one month in a coma and another 5 months in the hospital recovering from that. I had a colostomy from the whole nightmare. I have been told that it can take YEARS to fully recover from sepsis. Ever since then, that is when my RA/fibro got tremedously worse. It'd hard to go through. I was the primary breadwinner for my family and when I got sick, we lost everything. We lost our house, then our car, I lost my job because I missed too much work. We never have been able to catch up, that was about 2 years ago. I am living w/ my mom (I just got approved for SSDI) and my husband is in Virginia trying to find work. It's hard. I live in Colorado and I am not too sure what programs are in Georgia to help you. I am here if you need a shoulder to cry on. Hang in there!! > > > > > > , my husband has been out of work for 2 years with > disability > > due to colon cancer. Guest guest
Rita, Could I ask who told you to sell you home??? The value of the home you live in, or intend to return to, is never included in any property evaluation for social service programs, including Medicaid, SSDI or SSI. Did they give you a reason why? Nothing that workers and clerks say surprises me anymore. Just realize that the people you talk to are not always correct. Sometimes you might be talking to someone with their own agenda, or are so new to the job, they don't know what the right answer it, so they make things up. Yes, it happens. The other problem is if there is a program that might help you that isn't in their area, they will not do any research for you. That's a pet peeve of mine. In the meantime, have you applied for anything other than SSDI and or SSI? Do you have any health insurance or medicaid? Have you applied for disability based medicaid? In just checking the Georgia websites, here are some I found that might help: For the treatment of cancer: http://www.georgiacancer.org/treat-aid.php Look down in the Medically Needy area at the bottom of the page. The income limits are very low. But if you have no income you might be able to qualify: https://www.ghp.georgia.gov/wps/portal/!ut/p/kcxml/04_Sj9SPykssy0xPLMnMz0vM0Y_Qj\ zKLN4o3cQHJmMUbxBub6keiijjCBYL0vfV9PfJzU_UD9AtyQyPKHR0VAfUHD5g!/delta/base64xml/\ L3dJdyEvd0ZNQUFzQUMvNElVRS82XzJfQ1E! http://dch.georgia.gov/00/channel_title/0,2094,31446711_31945377,00.html Another site for information on access to health care in Georgia: https://www.ghp.georgia.gov/wps/portal/!ut/p/kcxml/04_Sj9SPykssy0xPLMnMz0vM0Y_Qj\ zKLN4o3cQHJmMUbxBub6keiijjCBYL0vfV9PfJzU_UD9AtyQyPKHR0VAfUHD5g!/delta/base64xml/\ L3dJdyEvd0ZNQUFzQUMvNElVRS82XzJfQ1E! In some states, they do not provide any health coverage for adults not on SSI. It appears that Georgia fortunately does, but only for the lowest incomes. Since the income limits do not say if it is gross income or net income(after deductions are made). I will apply. Can't hurt, might help. Guest guest
social security told us if we need immediate cash for bills one of our resources would be to sell our home. they did not say we could not own a home in order to get disability. i worked for a judge for 22 years and am aware that you cant be made do anything, but if you have assets and you call social security stating you are having a hard time after 2 years of making ends meet with both people disable, they said do you have a foreclosure notice? I said no. She said do you own your home? I said yes. She said if you need immediate funds you can always sell your assets including your home for quick funds. If and when you are approved you can downsize or rent.AS I told you before Georgia is the worst state in the nation for approval time. The average time after the appeal is sent in (after being turned down 2 times) is 24-60 months. We do not qualify for any help because we have worked and have a prescription drug plan, health insurance, etc. However, with no salary coming in there are still utilities, co-pays for chemo, co-pays for dr visits and co-pays for drugs. I guess we are penalized for working 40 plus years and paying our bills. sorry you misunderstood. rita [ ] Re: Medicaid cuts Rita, Could I ask who told you to sell you home???
