Guest guest
Hello everyone! There is a new book called " Thank You Power " by news anchor Deborah Norville and its on my to be read list as I am an avid reader. Today, while reading the February edition of Guideposts magazine, there was an article about Deborah and her new book. The book is about how gratitude makes a huge difference in peoples lives. People have been able to go on in their lives while facing heart stopping obstacles and the most difficult circumstances with smiles on their faces and with optimism. In the article about Deborah and her book, I came upon something that is relevant to all of us on this forum. Deborah learned the power of gratitude at a young age. She spoke about how her parents taught her to say " thank you " at a young age, and to always send thank you cards for things. Yet there is something in her life that caused her to be very grateful. You see, her mother had RA. Deborah talks about RA and the difficulties of living with the disease. She talks about how excited she was at the end of the school day, to find her mothers car in the parking lot to pick her up. Because of her mom was in the pickup line , she was feeling pretty good that day, which meant it was a good day for her. She speaks of how she grew up celebrating the days that her mother was, if not completely pain free atleast she was pain reduced. She would cheer for her mother on the days her mother would do something like put on lipstick, or clothing with hard to fasten buttons. Or when her mother would have enough energy to get a head start on dinner. When she was growing up treatment options were limited and not very effective. Being picked up from school and big dinners were something to appreciate. This was one of the most beautiful articles I have ever read! Since writing this book, Deborah has received emails from a man that survived a pulmonary embolism who now surprises restaurant patrons by paying their tabs for them. Or a man who was able to go to church for the first time in 40 years! Its amazing the studies that were done in this book! There were three groups. They were each assigned randomly once a week to focus on: lifes hassles, things for which they were grateful, and ordinary life events. The group who focused on gratitude were happier. They reported fewer negative physical symptoms. They spent an hour a week exercising more than people who focused on hassles. Deborah herself has suffered for years with migraines. She began to make a daily habit of writing down things for which she was grateful. Her migraines have decreased almost to the point of disappearing. Her energy has increased. I think this is so amazing! And what inspired her was a mother, who was chronically ill with something we all suffer from! I just wanted to share this with you all! Wishing you all reduced pain! in Michigan ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile.
