I'm on my second month of MTX and third month of prednisone, I felt like my monthly visitor was coming quicker than normal but this time only 10 days elapsed between the end of one and the start of another. My cycle has always been regular so I'm concerned. I've read both meds can make them irregular but more like missing them altogether not getting more frequent. I'll bring it up with my doctor on Monday just wondering if this has happened to any other ladies and what if anything could you do about it? Guest guest
Good question, Mandi! While I haven't taken MTX (yet), I've taken prednisone. In addition, I'd be interested in hearing if anybody has found RA in general to have an effect on their cycle or periods? I have polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) so my periods are irregular and I only menstruate four or five times/year. Within two days of this current, severe (in my history anyway) flareup I started a period which was a pretty big coincidence to begin with. It lasted the usual four days and that was that. Well damned if two weeks later I didn't start again! I had finished a seven-day regimen of prednisone (starting at 60mg/day and gradually decreasing) since the end of the first one and the beginning of the second one, but it never occurred to me that they might be related. What was remarkable was that I normally suffer minimal cramps but with the more recent period I was nearly incapacitated by severe cramps and achiness. I don't know if I was just more sensitive after having been in pain pretty much non-stop for a couple of weeks by then or if this is another effect of RA?
