LBDA Webinar: Improving Oral Health by Managing Care-Resistant Behavior in

Persons with LBD, Sept. 7, 2012, 2-3 pm EDT. This webinar will provide

caregivers with ways to assist their family members with mouth care. The

presentation will discuss the links between oral health and other health

problems, such as pneumonia, diabetes, heart disease and strokes. The webinar

will also explore realistic mouth care practices that caregivers can use when

either helping with mouth care or doing it for the person with LBD.

Our Presenters:

Rita A. Jablonski, PhD, ANP-BC

Dr. Rita Jablonski is a registered nurse and nurse practitioner with 30 years of

clinical experience caring for persons with dementia in a variety of settings.

An expert in both gerontology and oral health, she is an established researcher

who is currently conducting a study that is examining ways to improve the

delivery of mouth care to persons with dementia residing in nursing homes. Dr.

Jablonski is an Associate Professor at the University of Alabama in Birmingham.

Ann Kolanowski PhD, RN, FGSA, FAAN

Dr. Ann Kolanowski is the Elouise Ross Eberly Professor of Nursing at the School

of Nursing and Professor of Psychiatry at the College of Medicine, Penn State

University. For the past two decades she has conducted research on factors

associated with behavioral symptoms and delirium exhibited by persons with

dementia. Her work has been supported by grants from the National Institute of

Health, the Alzheimer's Association and the Neuroscience Nursing Foundation. She

is currently a principal investigator on a 5-year NIH funded project, " Reserve

For Delirium Superimposed on Dementia. " Dr. Kolanowski has published over 70

papers in scientific journals on dementia. She is a fellow in the American

Academy of Nursing and the Gerontological Society of America, and Director of

the Hartford Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence at Penn State University.
