Guest guest
We have had a " lot " of others describe the same thing. It has to be scary, but we have heard it before. If you go into Yahoo and go to check out similiar messages, you will find the same thing many times. I think I remember someone talking of their loved one being " out " for an hour!!! Anyway it may help you to know others have had the same experience. I didn't. Hugs, Donna R Update re Bob  Today at breakfast as I was feeding Bob he became unresponsive for about 3-5 minutes. His eyes were staring straight into space and he was making a " snoring " type of sound in his throat, and became very pale. I thought he was dying right then! He did not respond at all to loud calling his name or rubbing his sternum with my knuckles quite hard. I hooked the eggs out of his mouth with my fingers and sent my sil to find a nurse and bring her. I put his oxygen on and he pinked up. By the time the nurse arrived he had started to blink. She took his vitals and they were okay, but he had perked up by then a little. The RN said she heard some extra valve type sounds and irregular heartbeat when she listened to his heart. He did not appear to be in any pain. A seizure maybe? The Rehab Center doctor was called and informed. Bob is a DNR so they are just watching him and checking his vitals a little more often. I would not want him to go to the hospital or have any tests or anything like a pacemaker at this point, as he is too far gone in dementia and has little quality of life as it is. Later this afternoon he could not drink from a straw at all. He was agitated for 3 hours this afternoon while my sil sat with him and I took a break. However he rallied and ate well for me at supper time. Every day it is something different now. My sil flies home Monday and we will be on our own again then. Pat M. Guest guest
My mom has days like that too. The longest she was out was 2 ½ hours. We used to take her to the hospital until we found out that she has lbd and now we just make sure her oxygen mask is on and sit with her until she comes out of it. One of the symptoms of lbd is periods of unconsciousness. When she went to the hospital they would hose down her nose , take all kinds of tests and rub her sternum and nothing brought her out until her body told her it was ok. She would go from being totally out of it to being wide awake. It was very scary when it happened.

Guest guest
Wow, Pat and Sharon. Mom didn't do that and I don't think I noticed it in any other of the nursing home residents ( of the dementia unit). It would have taken my own breath away to see Mom do that. I am curious about how often it happens and whether it becomes more frequent over time. This sounds like something that, even if only happens in a few of the people with LBD, caregivers should be warned about ahead of time. (I find that if I know of something that might happen - even if the possibility is remote - I handle it better when it shows up.) Mom is gone now, but I strongly suspect that my uncle's dementia is LBD. Information like this, that I can pass on to my aunt and cousin, is very valuable to me. Pat, Sharon, never forget that you have people here who care about you. Though we can't be right there, we are right here and you have our admiration and support.
