Guest guest
sandy. why not a sweet roll (or bite) once a week. make one day special, and allow yourself. my doctor (still not sure he knows what he's talking about) said an occasional treat is good, because you don't feel deprived. my problem is that if i keep anything in the house, it's not occasional. i inhale at once. but we have a coffee house around the corner. they have the best cappuccinos. i love going in there, but i have not for ages, because i forget to tell them to use Splenda or whatever. the bakery that shared the space has moved. it's harder to get to now, and that's good, because i adore donuts, and tend to forget the diabetes when they are present. i admire your strength and determination. pat > > lovely sweet rolls they have, but it was not that hard just to order iced > tea, and now I've set a precedent for it :-) > >

Guest guest
sandy. entice them to walk with you. treat them to that drink half way. lol have a good visit. i'm trying to walk too. i'm finding too many excuses not to walk or ride the stationery bike. i'm guessing when the pounds start coming off, and my clothes fit again, i will be motivated more. pat > > habit. Guest guest
Hello pat0829@..., In reference to your comment: ð why not a sweet roll (or bite) once a week.  make one ð day special, and allow yourself.  my doctor (still not ð sure he knows what he's talking about) said an ð occasional treat is good, because you don't feel ð deprived.  Whenever i have a treat, or a bite of one... then all it does is make me want MORE AND MORE AND MORE Sooo its best to stay away from them for me, and i think its best for most others too. Guest guest
, I hear you... whatever works, right? :-) As I mentioned in another post, I was maintaining for a long time, with my regular half hour walk, but increasing it to an hour has really helped. I'm not losing by leaps and bounds, but I am losing steadily, and that's what's important. It is hard to find the time to walk that hour, though. What usually happens is that I'll be doing great walking, and then the weather or my schedule won't cooperate, so I don't do it for a couple of days, and then I'm out of the habit. I'm really trying this time not to let that happen, and my kids are coming next week for a visit, so I'll have to be really diligent... maybe walk before they get up. They're late sleepers, and I'm up early. Sandy ----------------- >>Yes but its the only way i seem to lose wt, unless i'm VERY active. Guest guest
you bet its hard getting back in to the habit. i stopped walking from the 1st of may kids had exams and they are not that brilliant have to sit at home or they won't hit the books. now i can't get back to the walking the schedule. i tried one day but now can't find the motivation to get started again...aaaaaaghhhhhh!! swam 2 days but then can't get in to that either today. too many other things have taken the time of walk and now i have to again set that 90 min. aside. as for going out i have really cut that down except to dinner parties which as it is is atleast twice a week.but i avoid carbs on buffet tables and stick to the meats, fish chicken and salad. then have very low calorie food the rest of the days i eat home. cheeky > _________________________________________________________________ Join the world’s largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com

Guest guest
sandy. i'm not a morning person, either. i love it late at nite, when it's quiet, and i play games on computer or whatever. i'm trying to convince myself that that's when i need to get to bed, and then when the birdies wake me up, roll over, nap a little, and then get up, get my meds, and maybe take a walk in that 1/2 hour i need to wait between meds and food. and then i can sit on the porch, while it's still cool, and have my coffee, donut (in the form of sausage and fruit), and then get to work. i know it's just discipline, and actually telling self here that i can't take one bite either. and when i tried it before, and just did not order (or get) sweets in here, then i'll HAVE to drink that water, or have a vegie for a snack, or maybe just get to bed before the body says i NEED that snack. i had thought of a personal trainer (someone on another list said they had one), but i remember Oprah saying that first, you have to get out of bed, and the trainer will not exercise for you, but will only tell you which exercises to do. the exercise is the part i'm dreading. i'm telling self here that maybe by fall, when college is back in session (about 1/2 block from here), that when i walk thru campus, i'll meet some dreamy college professor, and all this will be worth it. lol pat
Guest guest
oh, cheeky, the weight is super. i guess i need to be arm sticking more, and test. some nites before going to bed, i'll have a spoon of ice cream. but it's not once a month, and more than once a week. i'm thinking that since i'm having problems, i need to get rid of this stuff, because i don't seem to be able to have it as rarely as you suggest. i realize that what i need to do is get out my journal, and then write down what i eat, test, and then i'll be able to tell by myself what is ok, what is a little less than ok, and what is really wrong. i chose not to test last week when i had the BigMacAttack; i just enjoyed. but my leg is feeling a little " tingly " so i know i really do need to do something before i join my mom with the " amputee " title. then, i'll have a good excuse for not exercising, but i don't think that's the excuse i'm looking for. pat
Guest guest
oh, christy. the attitude!!!! i'm not sure i could have given up the cake, but i have passed on desserts quite a few times. i think right now, it's more of the loneliness than anything else. when i'm out with brother and sil, there's no problem behaving. when i'm home alone, i go for the bad stuff. pat
Guest guest
well, it sounds like a plan, i guess. i think i'm gonna go to a bigger market than my little grocer, and get some yummies like shrimp, fresh tuna, etc. and just have a super dinner, and then water to snack with. not what i want, but who said life was easy. pat > > > Sooo its best to stay away from them for me, and i think its best > for most > > others too. > > > > > > > Yep, me too. Guest guest
Christy. my plan has been to turn my head on testing when i eat bad stuff. i'm guessing that i need to start tomorrow with a full daily journal, and note what i eat tonite in it. then i can tell what's good and bad. so far, i know vegies are good. i thought oatmeal was, but i realized when mom was sick, that it was not. my body reacted too, but it just took it a little longer than an hour. i gave that up, and gave away all the oatmeal, when mom died. pat > > but for me I know these foods *are* literally a slow acting poison > for my body. >
