Guest guest
Hi everyone. I have juvenile rheumatoid arthritis since 1969 and am 41 years old now. I am on minocycline (antibiotic used as a disease modifying drug for RA) since August 2007. After being on it for months, I feel it is helping my joint pain and swelling especially my knees. I am also taking LDN (low dose naltrexone) since May 2007. Has anyone tried LDN for rheumatoid arthritis? I also belong to the low dose naltrexone group. Mostly everyone in that group has multiple sclerosis and is on LDN and are doing great. I want to hear from people with RA who have tried LDN. Best wishes to everyone, **************Create a Home Theater Like the Pros. Watch the video on AOL Home. It is marketed in generic form as its hydrochloride salt, naltrexone hydrochloride, and marketed under the trade names Revia and Depade. In some countries including the United States, an extended-release formulation is marketed under the trade name Vivitrol. " Some people have used naltrexone off label to treat chronic pain and certin autoimmune disorders. Beyond that, I know very little about it. Guest guest
I've just joined this group. I had symptoms of RA suddenly make an impact on me last September. In December I went on a short Prednisone course, which helped, as did another in January, then a month of it Feb/March. I saw the rheumatologist who told me to have blood tests (all negative) and xrays. Then he told me I had arthritis and prescribed Cerebrex (?spell? whatever, I chucked it in the fire) By then I had started preparing to go on low dose naltrexone. The 50mg dose is for addiction. The ldn dose is 3mg taken at night. Anyway, I stopped all medication. For pain and swelling I'm taking antioxidants - it meant taking Vitamin E 400, and fish oil. I should also take zinc and some others but got fed up with it all so didn't. I stopped eating animal fats, including cheese, eggs, and stopped bread and any cereals. I'm eating a lot more potatoes than before. Once a day I have chicken, or duck, or salmon. The rest is vegetables, nuts (for breakfast). I am taking clorella to help my system get rid of toxic residues. There is so much less pain and swelling I've almost felt normal. But exhaustion was still a problem. I started ldn on 22 April at 1.5mg just to see what happened. Nothing did so I increased it two nights ago to 3mg taken at 10 pm. First thing this morning I picked up the kettle with one hand - haven't done that for ages. I've a long way to go but feel hopeful that it'll get better. Maybe sometimes it'll be one step forward and two back but when it's two forward and one back that's a gain. I got most of my information from: http://ldn.proboards.com/index.cgi Although most of the posters have MS, it's really worth looking into. yours Margaret
Guest guest
hi margaret i tried ldn last summer but unfortunately it gave me nausea dizziness and migraines for 6 wks so i had to stop it. it really helped my RA though and fortunately most ppl don;t get bad side effects from it. cutting out anything processed dairy and grains really does make a difference doesn't it? good to hear you are doing well monique
