I got the bread from my local health food store..The owner is really

odd, but he is a low carb guy hard core for 10 years now...I lucked out,

he also caries a full line of Keto items (pasta, powered milk, chips,

etc...) Unfortunately I feel that it is all so expensive....Has anyone

tried Strawberries this season....My partner and her mom put together a

BBQ today, and we had strawberries for dessert, of course mine were made

with Splenda not sugar, and I didn't have the cake to go with it...But I

did have whipped cream...only 1 carb for the whipped cream, and the

strawberries have only 10 carbs for 1 cup.....They didn't touch my BG

level.....I just feel so happy today....Imagine, over bread and

strawberries....

Try this web address for the bread.

www.atkinscenter.com

the store here caries country style bread, and rye. Good luck....Dawn

Dawn,

Glad the Atkins bread helped you not feel so deprived.... that is a problem

when you can't eat the things you love and see everyone else eating them. I

think it's worth the $4.00 if it helps. I love to go out to eat, but I've

cut down on that -- we used to go out several nights a week -- because it's

just easier to watch what I eat at home. Since we're not going out as much,

I've decided to treat myself to things that I love that won't make my blood

sugar go up -- like fresh salmon, cooked on the grill, and cold boiled

shrimp, dipped in butter, and sautéed mushrooms :-)

Yes, I've had some very good ones, and just like you, they did nothing to my

blood sugar level. I don't blame you for feeling happy about that!

Whenever I can find something I love that's also good for me, I'm thrilled

:-)

re missing Apple Jack cereal:

you can get apple and apple-cinnamon flavored sugar-free

syrups (Nature's Flavors, Da Vinci) and drizzle some over

some ricotta and chopped nuts. Very yummy, and satisfies

those cravings!

Speaking of lunch today......my daughter and I were out going to garage

sales. For lunch we decided to go to our favorite Chinese buffet. It is the

first time I have eaten out since my diagnosis. I had two platefuls of good

stuff...but no rice or pasta. It was mostly broccoli, mushrooms, carrots and

chicken, but I had probably 8 different dishes.

I hoped I was choosing well! So, two hours later, I tested. It was 112.

Pretty good, huh?

So far my bg's have been 110, 122, 165, 114, 123, 109, 120, 123 and 112. This

is only my third day of using a meter. The 165 is from eating just a little

rice! I've decided to eat no grain carbs from now on. I take no medicine,

this is just diet control.

So.....am I doing good?

wendy. i would say yes, but i'm absolutely not the expert. personallly,

i think finding out which foods (like the rice) that upset you, and then

avoiding them, is super.

i just " had " to eat a piece of chocolate. for the first time in ages, my BS

went to 70ish, and i felt 'funny'. i'm on meds, and i'm guessing that when

i eat properly, and don't cheat, maybe the meds help too much. i actually

had tossed away or eaten everthing else. go i guess i'm going to need to

keep on hand either juice, or whatever, so that i can correct the meds.

lol.

but, as it's said here before, you go girl. pat

, the 112, was very good 2 hrs after eating :)

You should be able to easily control your diabetes with just diet and mild

exercise, and not need medication at present....

And you should not end up with complications of diabetes :)

i think first, i'm gonna make an appt. with a diabetes educator. i didn't

have time when mom was sick, but all i have is time now. my BS is now at

145, so i relize that's not good. i actually think the doctor may change

the two pills in the morning to one. my BP and BS were way weird when i

went before, but when i behave, they are pretty much ok, i think. my arm is

a mess today because i think i've tested often. i'd love to read Dr.

Bernstein's book, but i need to get my eyes uncrossed first. pat

I'm a big fan of the new generation of low-carb chocolates. Carbolite brand

(dark chocolate, chocolate crisp, chocolate peanut butter, etc.) is a standby

for me. I order it by the case

from www.netrition.com (great prices, flat shipping charge - NAYY). Pure Delite

is another great brand, as is the Ross line of sugarfree chocolates. And

Daskalides sugar-free

chocolate/hazelnut bars are like 7 mini truffles linked together to make a bar!

These bars are all sweetened with maltilol, and sometimes a bit of Splenda. A

few people have found that their BGs rise with them, but most people handle them

pretty well. You might

want to buy one each of a few different types, and check your BGS before, 1 hr

after, 2 hrs after as usual to make sure they're ok for you. They are for me

(Type II, Avandia and

moderate-carb diet).

BTW, the laxative effect of the maltilol seems to be something that diminishes

with repeated exposure. When I first started eating these bars, I could only

handle half a bar. Now I can

eat two full bars over the course of an evening (I try not to, but you know,

some times of the month....) without problems.
