Guest guest
Hi, , I've seen these articles a couple of years ago - in fact, you should be able to find old emails in this group about them. I think that nobody really knows at this point whether the coconut oil works, but it couldn't hurt... Hope you and Kay are doing ok. Guest guest
, a friend told me about the possible benefits of pure coconut oil a while back so I recently got some for my Dad. I often moisturise his face and legs so I've been adding that to his other cream. I've heard that ingesting it is best but that even rubbing it into the skin may help, as it's absorbed through the skin. I too figure it can't hurt. Dad's appetite (unless it's a really bad day) is usually really good but I may see how he goes with a spoonful a day as well. Today was a bit of a sad one as Mum told me that Dad had asked her last night how old he is. He started saying " Eighty....... " and Mum had to remind him he's only 78. Guest guest
, Went to the annual public meeting of the Arizona Alzheimer's Consortium yesterday and the subject of coconut oil was raised. The doctor didn't really answer about its use for dementia. Rather the response was that it's rich in omega 6 fats and is a big contributor to heart disease. So it should likely be avoided for other uses as well. (Not to be confused with omega 3 fats found in salmon that contribute to a healthy heart). Guest guest
Jim, yes, my primary dr. agrees that the fat producing problem outweighs the possible and not proven benefit of coconut oil. my wife has already gained much weight (182 lbs) so i don't need any more weight to lift. he hasn't heard of nasal insulin for demetia. it was used for diabetes a while back but has been removed from the market. so we will continue on with the caregiving the best we can.  Godspeed..........gary (wife Kay/LBD)                    Â\                                        Â\                                        Â\               Subject: Re: new treatments To: LBDcaregivers Date: Saturday, May 26, 2012, 2:12 PM  , Went to the annual public meeting of the Arizona Alzheimer's Consortium yesterday and the subject of coconut oil was raised.
