Guest guest
ok, a question. i have a freezer full of bananas. mom loved them, but they usually got too ripe. as a general thing, are bananas ok?? i think i remember from before that i was told if they grow locally, they are fine; if you have to get them from another country, forget them. i love smoothies, and i'm thinking fruit juices (if i can find one without sugar), or a shake with half and half and fruit would be good. pat > > with Half & Half. Delicious! I like to add the Half & Half when the berries > are still frozen. It makes a delicious frozen slush - like ice cream. >
Guest guest
i don't have a chart, so i guess i need to figure out what items contain which carbs. i know i read here (i think) that someone's hubby panicked when their BS went way down, and gave them orange juice. so i figured OJ was out. i love juices, and figured it would save trashing the bananas, but i'm not so in love with them that they can't get tossed. i just gave a pantry of stuff away that was in heavy syrup, or was starchy, so i guess trashing the bananas won't be that tough. pat (gonna test more) > > banana occasionally with breakfast, as long as I'm keeping my total > carbs for that meal to around 15. I also usually include a handful > of berries in my day, and will eat a half an apple as an afternoon > snack occasionally. I feed the other half to the dog. ;-) But >

Guest guest
sandy. i just purchased stuffed green peppers. i WANT them. however, i found 29 grams of carbs--rice i guess. sooo, luckily it's a small store, and that, the peach tea (fulla sugar), and a few other things need to be returned. i'm trying to tell myself now that until i can control myself, i just need to keep the stuff out of the house. and by the time i'm in conrol, hopefully, i won't want it. pat

Guest guest
Sorry, Pat, but bananas are one of the higher carb fruit...you'd be doing yourself a favor if you toss 'em all out. Better in the trash than causing high BGs. Here's the USDA website URL. It's easy to use...and has practically everything you need on it. Check it out and bookmark it...then you won't have to ask us about what foods are okay; you can check it out yourself, smile. http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/cgi-bin/nut_search.pl Vicki In a message dated 06/03/2002 3:28:54 PM US Mountain Standard Time, pat0829@... writes: > > ok, a question. i have a freezer full of bananas. mom loved them, but > they usually got too ripe. as a general thing, are bananas ok?? Guest guest
well, my mom had the best green peppers and they were my specialty. you use corn, potatoes, tomatoes, corned beef and onions. i guess the onions would be ok, but most of the rest has to go. funny, but i guess i associate that with mom, and so i don't want to fix it (her fav. dish), but i really was craving those things. i also have an uncle ben's rice dish. what i may do is test myself after one of them, and see what it is, and i will have the answer as to rice. i haven't tested after eating it. what does anyone use to snack with?? cashews tear up my tummy, and i can't walk because i can't stay far from the potty. i'm trying to figure out what's good (like the vegie chips in a bag); pretzels.. i know the sweets are out, but there has to be something good. BTW, i did try the jello, and not bad. and i'm loving strawberries with whipping cream. i just want a salty something. crunchy. i'm on a search for recipes i think. pat

Guest guest
thanks, tom. i was told cashews were super, and i was just munching on some. my recipe for green peppers won't work without the tomatoes, corn and potatoes. i'm guessing i could probably cook them up, and pick out the potatoes for me, and test it and see. i am finding that carbs do me in. i haven't tested potatoes, or rice, or bread, but i would assume they would all affect me pretty much the same way. and corn. i had a pot pie for dinner. i didn't read the package prior. i just fished it outta the garbage when tested at 243 just now. it was 44g of carbs. so i guess the potpie is history pat > > In spite of what you may have been told, many of us have found that fats > are > not the enemy, carbs are. >

Guest guest
Pat, Bananas are pretty high in carbs... half a banana counts as one fruit -- half a small banana, according to the nutritionist I talked to. I think that strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, and cantaloupe are lower in carbs. According to the Dole site, a medium banana has 29 grams of carbs, and I believe a whole cup of strawberries has about 10 grams... I think that's what someone said earlier. Sandy ----------------------- >>ok, a question. i have a freezer full of bananas. mom loved >>them, but >>they usually got too ripe. as a general thing, are bananas ok?? Guest guest
Pat...almonds are a good munchie...but you can't just eat an unlimited amount (them days are gone, girl!)...when I need a crunchy I count out ten almonds, close the package and eat them one at a time, slowly and savoring every bite. You might try packed pork rinds... they are just about the only crunchy snack food (think potato chips, etc.) that have no carbs. They might work with hamburgers. I don't think you'll find a french fry substitute that works...some people have tried cutting jicama into strips and frying it but I don't think it tastes anything like french fries...and jicama is pretty carby anyway. (I like it raw better). and the " fry " isn't very good for us anyway. Guest guest
You could save some $$ and high BGs by reading labels in the market, not after you've eaten the stuff, smile.
