Kerala: HIV positive women to visit all Grama Panchayaths.

In its yet another move to create ripples in the grass roots of the

community, the Kerala State AIDS Control Society is launching a

campaign - Thejaswini – which will take a team of HIV positive

women to all the Grama Panchayaths (GP) of the State and convene a

public function, walking exhibition, poster exhibition, leaflet

distribution and positive speaking in the GP.

The campaign will be inaugurated by the Health Minister of Kerala,

Smt PK Sreemathy Teacher on February 7th, at a function to be held at

Karakulam GP, the first GP of the state heading to the status

of " Stigma free GP " . Thejaswini campaign is realized with the

participation of Women Network of Kerala and Prathyasha, the State

Govt funded Drop in Centres. The Ministry of Local Self Government

joins hands with the Kerala State AIDS Control Society to provide

hospitality to the visiting " Thejaswinis "

The Thejaswini campaign is intended to reduce stigma. It also calls

attention to the underlying myths the community holds in mind

regarding the positive community. It also appeals to the community,

especially the house wives of Kerala, to throw out the roots of

stigma attached. The campaign also throws light into various aspects

of positive living. Information on various services rendered by the

Govt of Kerala will also be disseminated as part of the campaign.

The President of each Grama Panchayaths will preside over the

function held at respective Grama Panchayaths. Those positive women

from Kerala who are voluntarily willing to be part of the Thejaswini

campaign can join the campaign. The campaign will end on March 8th,

the International Women's Day.
