Guest guest
wendy. since no one else is on, i'm answering. lol i'm new to this AGAIN. i was diagnosed a bit ago--not sure whether it was a year or what--and for lots of reasons, ignore it. i'm back now trying to take care of stuff. i have an At Last. some days i don't want to test (today being one of them). most days, i test an hour afterwards and then 2 hours. mind you, i will put off ages before i go to the doctor/dentist, because i detest needles. i still don't like the finger pricks, but the ones that test with the arm don't have problems, except that you have little pricks all over the place. regarding your comment. i joined lots of lists. i lost some addresses of the lists i joined, but this one has always been the most active and most informative. there's another list that either vicki or heather was one with me, and i can't remember that one, but it was also informative. i tend to like this one the most, and no clue why. you sound like you have a good attitude. i do some days; some days i don't. the folks on this list will " fuss " at you for being bad, and be a terrific shoulder when you need it. it's a very, very, very supportive group of people, and it seems most that answer have had the problem for a very long time, have tried low carb and other diet plans, and have lots of information to share. glad to have you. pat

Guest guest
Hello wsm311@..., In reference to your comment: ð The first time I ever did my own test, my fasting bg ð was 110. I ate a big lunch today and 2 hours later, my ð reading is 122. That's good, right?? not bad at all, what did you eat for lunch? are you on any meds, were your bs very high in the last few weeks, how were you diagnosed and when? sorry if you've told us all this,
Guest guest
HI, ...welcome to the list. I only have a short time to answer this right now and I'll respond further later...but the one thing I want to tell you is that your blurry vision is DEFINITELY connected to diabetes and if your eye doc said not, he's just plain wrong and maybe you need to find another eye doc. Blurred vision is a common initial symptom of diabetes and is due to continued high blood sugars. As you get your BGs down to more normal numbers, it will improve. This isn't saying that you might NOT have myasthenia gravis...but diabetes could definitely be a cause of your blurred vision. How long since your diagnosis? What was your initial A1C? I'll write more later. For now...I suggest you check out our " bookmarks for newbies " for suggestions on excellent books to read..especially " Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solutions " by K. Bernstein, M.D. and " The First Yeart: Type 2 Diabetes, An Esential Guide for the Newly Diagnosed " by Gretchen Becker. Dr Bernstein also has a website. Guest guest
I had 2 quarts of salad with 2 Tbsp of blue cheese dressing. The salad had lettuce mix, a tomato, an avocado, sliced cucumber, red, yellow and orange peppers, cheese, cut up turkey and ham, Vidalia onion, baby carrots and raddichio. Then afterwards I ate 10 cashews. I had 2 big glasses of water with a few pieces of lime squeezed in. No meds for diabetes. I spent last Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the hospital. I had a doc appointment Friday, he said I looked awful and sent me right up to the hospital ;-) While in the hospital, they only tested me once. It was 105 fasting. Saturday I was told the diabetes was official. My HBA1c was 7.0. I have had horrible blurry vision since a week ago Wednesday. The good news is that my eyes are healthy and the problem is not diabetes. The bad news is that the eye doc says I have myasthenia gravis. The story is this...in October last year, the pharmacy filled my Zyrtec bottle with 10 mg of Zyprexa. I got very, very ill. Since then I have had 5 blood transfusions...the last bag while I was in the hospital this time. I am also on home oxygen. I already was diagnosed with mixed connective tissue disease, uterine hyperplasia and a few zillion other things before this. So....I'm your basic wreck ;-) I manage to do quite a bit despite it. Check out my web page to see my underground house, organic vegetable farm and beautiful daughter ;-) My kid is 18 and just built her own house here at the farm ;-) > not bad at all, what did you eat for lunch? > are you on any meds, > were your bs very high in the last few weeks, how were you diagnosed and > when? > sorry if you've told us all this, > (wsm311@...) How long since your > diagnosis? What was your initial A1C? The highest blood sugar on the doc's computer is 153. All the rest are 90-110. I believe the Megace and prednisone caused me to REALLY become diabetic. Hopefully I'll be easy to controll with food. The only A1c ever done on me was 7.0 Let's just say I hope you are wrong and the eye doc is right ;-) Do blood sugars like mine cause vision problems? I was hoping I was low enough. (wsm311@...) Guest guest
Hi, ...well, 153 isn't too high as those things go. Longterm use of prednisone can cause diabetes, yes. And why would you rather your blurry vision be due to myasthenia gravis instead of diabetes? Because if it is diabetes caused, it can be reversed. Don't know about MS-caused blurry vision being reversible though. Guest guest
that sounds encouraging. my vision is horrib ly blurred, and that's my main concern for the present. toes and fingers too, but the vision is driving me nuts. my eye doctor told me last month to wait 3-4 months, and come and test again. and then, we will adjust the prescription. i'm just so thankful to see this post, and realize that if i start getting the BS under control, my eyes will be better, and i can read emails (or even a book!!) without closing one eye, or seeing double. pat > s > diabetes caused, it can be reversed. Guest guest
this is just so good to know. i really wanted another prescription and new glasses. she said it was a waste of mone, but you know, when you use your eyes all day (as most of us do), and you get irritated with the blurring, you're willing to pay. but i also think that's an incentive. the toes and fingers are a ways away, and i'm still dismissing that (or choosing not to think about it like i should). but the eyes are now. i'm gonna search thru stored emails now and get the names of some favorite treats, and then order them. i know i won't find cheesecake, or 'real' pastries and stuff, but at least i will find something for 'emergencies.' pat > > Do wait the 3 or 4 mos. until your blood sugar settles down. Guest guest
might know. i find it a good one, so i should figure it would go off the market. i have a " Freestyle " also, but have not figured it out yet. i just got it last week. and i have an Accucheck, but don't like the finger prick. i think maybe tomorrow i will go to the two pharmacies here, and buy out the At Last goodies. i got 3 boxes the other day, but since they won't be restocking, i will get enough to take me through the next few months, and by then i'll have read the manual that comes with this other thing. darn them. pat > > Oh, Pat. Even better, my partner's name is ;-) You must have looked at the Idiot Warning Page :-) ;-) did that after some particularly awful visitors. We take in apprentices, interns, homesteader-wanna bees, WWOOF'ers and field hippes. The Willing Workers On Organic Farms all come from other countries as I am only listed in their international directory. Most folks are really nice and we love having them here....but the idiots REALLY stand out ;-) The last issue of Escapees (SKP's) published my offer to let folks camp here free. I've already gotten lots of responses from that. SKP's are part or full time RV'ers ;-) Most summers we host half a dozen field hippies. They are folks who live in the hippy school bus or two campers out in the field in exchange for some garden work. Most of them are vegans, so I often end up going vegan for the summer and make all our own soy milk and tofu and other stuff that's probably good to eat when you're a diabetic ;-) Did you check out 's house? She started building it at 17. She saved up all her own money to buy the materials. She didn't know anything about carpentry when she started, but got so good that she now makes $18/hour building and refinishing! Not bad for an 18 year old. http://www.homestead.com/peaceandcarrots/sHouse.html (wsm311@...) Guest guest
wendy. i did check the idiot page. lol sooooo funny. it sounded like me when i was younger, so i guess she had done it. i'm going back to your site later, but the variety of goodies you grow sounds divine. i miss summers when i could go out to the garden and get some squash and tomatoes to fry up for breakfast. of course, now, i would be unable to do that, because i used a ton of flour. but having all those berries and cherries at my disposal, well, are you up for adopting. lol i'm available. pat

Guest guest
Pat, Do wait the 3 or 4 mos. until your blood sugar settles down. When I was first diagnosed, my vision was so blurry that I couldn't see my own face in the mirror. As my blood sugar settled down -- after lots of bouncing around -- my vision came back. I was having some problems a couple of weeks ago because my blood sugar was so very high, but it's a little better now. Sandy ----------------- that sounds encouraging. my vision is horrib ly blurred, and that's my main concern for the present.
