Guest guest
Pat, Do wait the 3 or 4 mos. until your blood sugar settles down. When I was first diagnosed, my vision was so blurry that I couldn't see my own face in the mirror. As my blood sugar settled down -- after lots of bouncing around -- my vision came back. I was having some problems a couple of weeks ago because my blood sugar was so very high, but it's a little better now. Sandy ----------------- that sounds encouraging. my vision is horrib ly blurred, and that's my main concern for the present.
Guest guest
Pat, Be sure to wait until you're sure your vision has settled down, as I only waited the 6 weeks that the opthomologist thought it would take, and it actually took longer. When I got my glasses two weeks later, I couldn't see out of them. Sandy ----------- this is just so good to know. i really wanted another prescription and new glasses

Guest guest
Oh, Pat. Amira has been bought by Roche Diagnostics. The At Last meter (I have one and am using up the last of the strips) has been discontinued. They'll be happy to send you a free Accuchek meter to replace it (there were three to choose from). They don't even have any meters left to replace these with when the batteries run down. Mine was actually broken, and they sent me a whole new starter kit because that's all they had. There are other arm testing meters on the market, though. You may prefer one of those. Guest guest
oops forgot - I still have vision ?fluctuations? days when my vision is blurry or not as good and I have my sugar under much better control - 80-120's even on the days when my vision is acting up. What your little meter shows is an indicator NOT an accurate determination. The worst my blood sugar has been is 150ish a couple times - well there was a ~220 in the last few months - but _for me_ there has not been a correlation between the " passing " vision changes such as blurriness & what the blood glucose meter reads. On the couple high days no vision problems. With your numbers why did your dr Dx diabetes? Sorry I probably missed a lot. -----Original Message----- From: wsm311@... > This isn't saying that you might NOT have myasthenia gravis...but diabetes > could definitely be a cause of your blurred vision. How long since your > diagnosis? What was your initial A1C? The highest blood sugar on the doc's computer is 153. All the rest are 90-110. I believe the Megace and prednisone caused me to REALLY become diabetic. Hopefully I'll be easy to controll with food. The only A1c ever done on me was 7.0 Let's just say I hope you are wrong and the eye doc is right ;-) Do blood sugars like mine cause vision problems? I was hoping I was low enough. Guest guest
Hmm, I have 3 or 4 - no 5 different meters, freestyle & accucheck among them. I don't use the freestyle as I find it frustrating & aggravating, not my fav emotions. Are you skinny? I am not, maybe why I have so much trouble getting drop of blood with the freestyle. half the time at least I end up with multiple sticks so I said the heck with it. Using Walgreens at the moment, they had last best sale on strips ;^ ) The lancets make the most dif IME and I like the accuchecks, but I am bad about changing them - hard to handle for me at times. I don't figure any of them out, my DH does. He is and has been great, researched which meter when I got Dx and of course found out which would interface with puter (he is puter wizard, way he makes our living) I have always had low tolerence for frustration so just hand him whichever meter I am using when need to change chip or whatever. Moi RTFM? Ha! I'd rather read barbara cartland or joseph conrad or stephen donaldson (highly unreadable authors for me) or eat growdies. [growdies are growed in ground - unfortunately I have never ever liked veggies. I am willing to swallow as many tabs or capsules as nec of alfalfa etc but not eat veggies. Don't get me wrong, I think veggies are great & never let the critters or small children know I don't like them; for me to find them edible I have to drench them in blue cheese or such so ...] Kat -----Original Message----- From: wsm311@... > i have a " Freestyle " also, but have not figured it out yet. That's the one I got. It's VERY easy and there's no pain! ;-) If you need help, let me know. (wsm311@...) Guest guest
Hi, I was dxed with 2 fasting glucose readings at my Dr's office about 156 - 170. My intial hba1c was 7.5. My vision was slightly blurry, but since I was 47, I thought I might need glasses for the first time in my life. I scheduled an eye exam, but it was 2 months later. By the time of my eye exam, my vision was back to normal and so were my bgs. My opthamologist told me this was common among diabetics as numbers shifted downward. This was my only " diabetic " symptom, other than a skin infection that was difficult to heal. BTW, I didn't need glasses until last year at age 51! Guest guest
Don't we have a recipe for cheesecake somewhere in the archives? I don't have time to search for it... but there are a lot of healthy treats you CAN have Pat... especially since they are finally letting us buy Splenda here.
