Today at breakfast as I was feeding Bob he became unresponsive for

about 3-5 minutes. His eyes were staring straight into space and he

was making a " snoring " type of sound in his throat, and became very

pale. I thought he was dying right then! He did not respond at all

to loud calling his name or rubbing his sternum with my knuckles quite

hard. I hooked the eggs out of his mouth with my fingers and sent my

sil to find a nurse and bring her. I put his oxygen on and he pinked

up.

By the time the nurse arrived he had started to blink. She took his

vitals and they were okay, but he had perked up by then a little. The

RN said she heard some extra valve type sounds and irregular heartbeat

when she listened to his heart. He did not appear to be in any pain.

A seizure maybe? The Rehab Center doctor was called and informed.

Bob is a DNR so they are just watching him and checking his vitals a

little more often. I would not want him to go to the hospital or have

any tests or anything like a pacemaker at this point, as he is too far

gone in dementia and has little quality of life as it is. Later this

afternoon he could not drink from a straw at all. He was agitated for

3 hours this afternoon while my sil sat with him and I took a break.

However he rallied and ate well for me at supper time. Every day it

is something different now. My sil flies home Monday and we will be

on our own again then.
