Thanks for posting , keep up the good work and I look forward to reading more posts. Hang in there the change will come.

Zephyr

Thank You

Thanks to everyone who replied to my initial email. I try not to be discouraged, but until I start looking and feeling better, I don't think I can avoid it. When I said I'd lost 12 pounds, it actually was a projection based on my bathroom scale at home. Well, I weighed in last night, and I was right on. Exactly 12 pounds since 1 August.I think my biggest problem is that all of my friends and co-workers know that I'm on Weight Watchers, and therefore I'm a little embarrassed because after eight weeks I still look the same. My clothes are a little more comfortable, but not necessarily looser. I think the Wendie plan is working for me. During weeks 2-6, I was only losing between .2 and .8 pounds. The last two weeks I lost 2.2 and 1.6. That's a huge improvement for me. Now .... I'll stop writing these long drawn-out emails and try to be more positive and more supportive toward everyone else. Thanks for listening. (VA)211/199/145

Wow, Dana, thanks for sharing. I know we're all glad to listen and

give advice any way we can.

I can't answer your questions, as I only have one uterus and cervix

(i'm either bicornuate or septate), but this tampon thing piqued my

interest. I can't use any brand but O.B. (non applicator). all

those other ones are too skinny and the blood leaks out the sides,

around the tampon. O.B., you " flare " out the base with the string,

making a tampon bigger at the bottom than the top, then insert w/

your finger. You can feel just where everything is going, and

position it just right so it's in front of your cervix (or cervices,

in your case). I think, as women more in tune with our bodies than

average, we may be more willing to not use an applicator.

I'm not an o.b. saleswoman or anything, but I just got so frustrated

with tampons leaking until I tried them. Won't switch for ANYTHING!

See? you don't need two of anything to be a freak like me. :) Just

a big division down the middle of your uterus is enough!

Best,

Jill

What if I

> have babies inside me that were conceived months apart?

Wait, I just had another thought. When you're pregnant, your body

produces hormones that block up the cervix with mucus. It's called a

mucus plug. This is to protect the baby from outside stuff floating

up into the uterus. My guess is, but I don't KNOW this, but my guess

is that if you got pg in one uterus, the hormones would cause a mucus

plug to form in both, so, you couldn't have babies growing MONTHS

apart. However, I do think you can get pg in both uteri at once, if

you " double release " eggs that month.

I so happy that you found us...it really does help to know that you aren't

alone!

I don't even know where to start, but here goes.......

> Does insurance usually cover all of our special needs?

Yes, at least for diagnostic and/or corrective purposes. MA's are

congenital anomalies, so most insurances will cover the various tests and

procedures (US, IVP, HSG, MRI, Lap/HST, etc) to determine what it is that

you have and do any corrective procedures that are available. I found

that if you aren't trying to conceive, it is best to not even mention

conception to your insurance company (they tend to get a little testy when

they think you are being treated for infertility)...I had to struggle a bit

to get them to pay in-network rates for my RE, but my persistence paid off.

>I guess they know I have UD because they did a post-op ultrasound,

I can't remember what all you said you've had done, but the lap/hyst. is

the end all and be all for diagnosing UD...though you can be fairly

comfortable with dx of UD since it is very rare () to have a SU with

duplicate cervices. I had US, HSG and IVP to make sure my kidneys were

okay. I also happened to have an old pelvic MRI which gave a great view of

my cute little uteri.

> And since I have two cervices, I have been told that I would not be able

> to carry past 4 or 5 months because

>my uteri would be each only half size and not able to stretch enough, and

>that then to remove the fetus or to give birth, I would have to have a C-

>section because my cervices won't be big enough.

Wait, wait, wait.....throw away that part about not being able to carry

past 4 or 5 months! Several docs fed me that line too.... We have proof

that its not true! Though usually classed as high-risk, many UD moms carry

to term or close to term with little problem. I have read some studies

that site an increased risk of 2nd trimester losses, they are in the

minority...most UD studies simply state the risk of abnormal lie and

increased risk of pre-term labor. Often C-section is necessary because of

limited room for the baby to turn for normal presentation, but if baby is

properly positioned, vaginal delivery is common with UD. For those that

have a vaginal septum, there is a risk of it tearing, but some who have

experienced that say its not much worse than an episiotomy. But since you

have already been 'remodeled' you don't have to worry about that! :-)

>are the two cervices why I have

>trouble getting tampons to work effectively?

You got it girl! My poor mother just kept on buying me bigger and bigger

and bigger tampons and it just didn't work! When I was finally diagnosed I

just thought to myself DUH!, no wonder - one plug can't stop 2 holes! I

now just schedule my beach time around AF, since I find it horribly

uncomfortable to use two tampons...it is comfortable for some, but my vag.

septum sits a little to the left, making it a tight squeeze.

> Is the tipped uteri thing the reason my cervices are always in the way

> during sex, and is it true that

>because there are two, they are even more sensitive and hurt even more than

>one being hit or poked at with a q-tip for a pap smear?

I don't really have an answer for that one...I have had occasional

discomfort during intercourse- but now that I understand my anatomy a

little better, I can put it down to " accidental " use of the wrong side (the

left, smaller side)

>have heard from doctors, but then again, I also heard from them before the

>surgery that if I just keep forcing the tampons in, that my vaginal opening

>would get bigger and everything would be normal inside me (idiots!).

I agree wholeheartedly....Idiots! We need to get those guys together with

the doc who told me that he would " look further into it after I had four or

five m/c " Yikes! and they let these people call themselves doctors!?!?

>Can you get pregnant in both sides at once, and does that cause

>miscarriage? What if,

>as I have a history of twins in my family (I am a paternal twin myself), an

>egg releases out of each ovary during the same month,

Beth, correct me if I'm wrong on this one.....Yes, you can get pg in both

sides at once, but only if an egg or eggs are released from both

sides...but the risk is no greater that with a 'normal' uterus. (Risk does

become greater with the various fertility drugs which can cause multiple

eggs to be released) Same goes for twins...UD doesn't increase the

occurrence. I am concerned about this one myself because there are a very

large number of twins in my family.

>or say I get pregnant in one side one month, and then in the other a

different month? What if I

>have babies inside me that were conceived months apart?

When I was first diagnosed, I was scared to death about that one....I have

heard stories of this occurring, but I think it is very rare. Since HCG,

the pg hormone, normally suppresses subsequent ovulation, so it would be

very difficult to get pg, after the cycle in which you first conceived. I

may have read it in the Enquirer " Miracle Mom Gives Birth to Twins, Three

Months Apart " . :-)

Again - I am really glad you found us....It helps to know that there are

others out there and that we really aren't freaks of nature --- I prefer

to think that we are 'special', really special! You sound like an amazing

person who is willing to work hard for what she wants. I wish you the best

of luck!

I love OBs, too. They do catch stuff better than the longer,

skinnier tampons. Also, it's always good to give a tampon a shrp

jerk once it's in, to align it.

Hello everyone. Thanks so much for all the support and comforting words. I

did as I said I took Wed. and Thurs. off from all appointments to end up

spending the night out on the living room floor with . Just one of

those bad nights. He is usually a good 10 hours a night sleeper. So, I took

Friday off too. It's now Sat. and now I'm starting to feel stir crazy from

being in the house so many days without leaving. HA--never satisfied.

Anyway, I appreciate everyone on the list. I look forward to meeting

everyone in Cleveland. Hopefully, my mom, s grandma will be with us.

, my husband, wants to be there but that depends on work. He is so

wonderful to do the things he does (working all the overtime he can get and

side jobs) to provide for and I. I was always a worker until I had

. Drastic changes.

--Thanks for the interest you took to join the list. I'm fairly new to

the list, my son will be 1 on Oct. 7th. I occasionally think and daydream

about 's future. Matter of fact, I started crying the other day (my

breakdown I had for a couple of days) when I saw a group of kids playing

around with Jackie Chan on TV. I wondered--will be able to have fun

like those kids. I don't like comparing but I sometimes still do by habit.

It's so wonderful to hear about your son and his girlfriend. I needed to be

uplifted and that's exactly what you did for me. Thank you. If there is

anything that I might be of help--I will definitely try.

I'm just learning sign language. Actually, I'm leaning more toward total

communication but my teacher seems to think that I will eventually become

totally ASL.

I hope to join the chat tonight. Thanks again, everyone.

God bless,

I was watching a show on Tv, can't remember which one. But the hubby was allergic to the wife, long story short, she'd just started a high protein diet something where she was eating nothing but chicken. Turns out the hubby was allergic to the antibiotics in the chickens that his wife was eating. She was eating sooo much chicken that the stuff was coming out of her pores.

Something to ponder...

Have you tried free range chicken? It's free of chemicals and, even though more expensive, might give you the option of a chicken dinner on occasion.

In fact, she is the one that did the blood work to see if I had the antibodies, which I do. I am hoping that the blood work that the new doctor I went to comes back soon. They have an in house lab, and it takes about 1 week to get the results. For now I guess I will sit back and try to relax, and not scratch myself to much. I am also allergic to the Kentucky Blue Grass, lol, but I live in Tx, so there's none of that here. I'm also allergic to Bermuda, with very high #s, as well as very high #s on the St. Augustine grass, which everywhere you look here on the Gulf Coast, that's what's growing in a front yard. :(

Hi Jill,

You're welcome.

Do you have the lab's ranges to see where your values fall?

One thing about thyroid is that what is 'normal' for one may not be normal for you... Total T4 and T3 Uptake are pretty worthless tests... and your TSH, regardless of ranges, has risen... I'd really like to see the right tests done... IMHO.

How are your basals? Temp, pulse and respiration. Often that is much more accurate than running the wrong tests....

If you're not feeling good... we're not reading to throw in the towel yet.... lets see what we can figure out... If you're game, that is.

Don't have the Free T3 and Free T4, which are the two most important, and

your TSH is waaayyy too high. Not subclinical, rather, HYPOthyroid, no

doubt about it.

Yes, I was really sore this week from laying around

Thank you to all of you. Your heartfelt condolences on the loss of my Dad

sincerely helped. The maze of insurance, hospitals, hospice and doctors

was painful, but likely an invaluable lesson in what I will have to deal

with again with my husband. You are a wonderful group and very much

appreciated.
