Hello everyone. This is my first time posting. Looks like a great

group of people. I am a man in my mid forties and was diagnosed with

RA three years ago. I certainly have been through much of the pain,

depression and fatigue I see many of members of this group write

about. I have good days and bad and can definitely relate to the

physical and psychological challenges RA presents. I have a very

demanding career with a high degree of responsibility for several

hundred employees. Three months ago I found myself in an endless

loop of stress, depression, pain and lack of hope for the future. I

was literally unable to function at home or work and often thought

that I wanted to die. (Something very unlike me as I am very positive

and upbeat) My Rheumatologist insisted that I see a hypnotherapist

that works with terminally ill cancer patients, in an attempt to

break the cycle I was in. I agreed and was cautiously optimistic.

After completing all three of the program appointments I emerged with

new tools to deal with RA. I have been able to significantly reduce

the amount of medications (and I have been though the entire list).

Occasionally, when flairs are really bad, I may need something

stronger but I use those stronger meds carefully and stay in close

contact with my Doctor. I am now a big subscriber to the mind / body

connection for the positive as well as the negative. My quality of

life has improved significantly. My career is back on track and my

outlook on life is much better. The RA, and its effects, did not go

away but how I deal with those effects has been the key. Relaxation

techniques, hot baths, scented oils, sleep, breathing techniques and

turning down the " noise " in my life have all (over several months)

brought me to a point where I want can share this with full

confidence. Believe me, these are all things that I would have NEVER

participated in before. This may not be for everyone, but I wanted to

share my story in an attempt to help that one person that may be

reading this message board in search of something to hang onto. There

are great relaxation books, web sites and music arrangements

available without needing to see a hypnotherapist. God's blessings

to each one of you. Jim
