Guest guest
can't speak about smoking, but yep, it's like diet soda, and that sorta thing. once you decide you can't have sugar, and you need something (i hate black coffee), then it's ok. i now love diet Dr. Pepper, and splenda. i haven't tried it baking yet. not sure what it would taste like in cooking. pat > > afterwards my throat was burning. Guest guest
Hmmmm....don't drink coffee or alcohol or smoke. I'm not sure I should do Splenda, either. Despite my zillion illnesses, I have stayed alive by living pretty well. Stuff like Splenda is a huge step for me ;-) My daughter asked if I was abducted by aliens when she found out I tried it ;-) Today I had a dental cleaning appointment. I needed to check my after breakfast bg while I was in the chair. The hygenist was fascinated and asked me lots of questions. Turns out she is on a low carb diet for weight loss. Holding my mouth open that long is TORTURE! All of my muscles are pretty weak from myasthenia gravis. I learned on the MG list that all of us sickies have a hard time keeping our mouths open. I slept 3 hours after lunch and still feel groggy. It took a lot out of me! Can't remember if it was this list or another where somebody said brown rice raised bg less. I made some brown Jasmine rice for supper tonight and only had one serving spoonful. My bg went up to 104 instead of the 165 last time with white rice. I was amazed! Today my bg's didn't jump around much. I was 98 when I woke up, 98 after breakfast, 102 after lunch and 104 after supper. Kinda boring ;-) (wsm311@...) Guest guest
Just remember, Pat...YMMV....I can't handle brown rice either. Test first, eat some...then test one and two hours later. and keep good notes! Vicki, compulsive note-taker, smile. Guest guest
Ican't for the life of me remember what " YMMV " stands for, but for me, i like the isntant gratification. so, i get out my hot dogs, hamburger, or whatever; my vegies; my butter. and i put them on the little Foreman, and in 10 min. i have dinner. rice takes too long, and there's another pot to clean. lol so i doubt i'm gonna try rice until my summer stuff is gone. pat> > Just remember, Pat...YMMV....I can't handle brown rice either. Guest guest
rick. what a relief. i guess i thought everything worked the same all the time. i have my same breakfast of egg, sausage and strawberries about every day (except a few days i had a shake--can't remember the name), and some days, my BS is way close to 200; other days it's below 80. i really do want to be able to say once again that my BS is 123 on waking, and 80-90 the rest of the day. hasn't happened yet. pat (full after hamburger with mushrooms, squash and NO DESSERT) > > YMMV is your mileage may vary - e, what works for me, may not work for you, > > or vice versa.
