Guest guest
Tracie- I can't believe I have found someone in my part of the country!, I am in ME, also, I am from MA, but hubby born and brought up here. I posted some college info on FASE earlier also. Let me tell you, if your daughter wants to go to college in another state, that parent/student night at end of yr.is not geared for that, they were only able to answer questions for students attending here in ME., how close minded is that? If she is heading or thinking ORONO, I believe you will do all right with funds, there are alot of programs for the ones meeting lower income, my son goes in Ma. and I consider ourselves poorer most of the yr. my husband is a fisherman, so from Nov-April we have a rough rough time. I would really get going on finding funds if your daughter is going out or wants to attend out of State. My son is living off campus sharing a rent, and took out a loan that he has to pay and has been making the payments on right away, he does not want to have a bill after college, I have talked blue in the face to take another as he only borrowed 6,000, a yr ago,he had to have a co-signer, and won't take out another student loan to ease is worries of living on such a shoe string, but no go, may be smart in the long run, as some of those great sounding loans have mislead students and they are stuck paying alot more then thought. You have alot of research, and paperwork ahead, I was nuts helping my son, mostly with the FASE, he took the rest upon himself, visited all the college's alone with other friends, applications, etc, he did 1 yr out in Ca, and has settled into a engineer degree. I just cheer him on all the way and hope the funds don't run out. Right now his father, who is better off financially then we are, and I did not collect child support from him on two boys, so I just flat out said you have to keep Bryce in school no matter what. I hope you are in a bit more helpfull part of Maine than I am. Take Care go on Me.Gov .com and there is a site branches off onto what is avail. here. As I said though if it is Orono that your child is thinking of there should be no problem they have a good financial aide program I have found others say. Take Care Sharon I still can't belive I happened to see someone else posted from Me. JANE <janeatregis@...> wrote: Tracie, filling out your FAFSA is the big deal, and you do that as soon as possible. Chas was fortunate enough to get lots of scholarship money b/c of her GPA, volunteer work, (i.e. she worked her butt off, basically.) She also got a Be On Time loan, which becomes a grant if they graduate on time and keep their GPA up. E me off list and I will try to remember to ask her for some info, she's actually home on spring break this week. I'm a broke single mom so I know where you're at. --- In , " tracierae143 " <tracierae143@...> wrote: > > My daughter has a year left of high school and is taking her SATs in > June and we are getting all this college information and I am SOOOO > lost.
