RE: Breast Milk Baby doll toy teaches young girls how to breastfeed

I find it some what sickening.... to promote breast feedling at this age? Will

that come with the book What to Expect when you are Expecting and all 1st

graders will have to read it?

I don't like the idea.

Well, my daughter didn't need a special doll. She saw me breastfeed her younger

brother and one day she just pulled down her shirt and started to " nurse " her

doll. Whatever is put out there just needs to be age appropriate. A child may

be a bit young to learn the details of how to nurse, which is what this doll

seems to be trying to teach. However, I think learning that there are options

to feeding are ok. I understand that kids are just playing...when I was a

child, my baby dolls had bottles, and I still nursed both of my children. Just

my opinion. Have a good weekend.

I agree with Merav and . It seems like a marketing device that is twisting

natural role modeling too far for the age but on the other hand a start is a

start. While expecting her with little brother, I gave my daughter a life-like

baby doll and mini sling to carry it in and a couple little pin on cloth diapers

to fit (seamstress at that point) - he was a rude awakening to her 2 1/2 y/o

self centric world. She adapted to the brother invasion and did play with the

doll, carry it in the sling and occasionally hold it in a nursing hold. she

continued to prefer her cheetah family of animal models though.

Why are we not offended when baby dolls have bottles when we want to

encourage breastfeeding. The little girl doesn't raise her top - she

actually breastfeeds on the cloth showing you can still breast feed in

public without whipping out a breast. I like the idea.

because it is sick. She doesn't even sexually developed and we are jumping into

breasfeeding? How did the baby get there..wooooo that's the real taboo, dare we

teach the true facts about how babies come to the world. or shell we have now

Barbie and Ken perform for the kids too?Enough with the pushing for breast

feeding from age zero. For each age - there is its own stage. the girl in the

clip didn't look as if she even enjoyed to play with the doll. WHy do we stress

so much breastfeedling as if our babies will die in this country (not in the 3rd

world country) if the are not breast fed. (and yes, I know all the benefits, but

its not do or die, not in the USA). Women develop too many guilt feeling when

they choose not to breast feed, and that transfered to the child, which is not

healthy. What happened to women right to choose.... it is still our body and we

are the only ones who should say what we want and not want to be done with it,

without the guilt drive. Just because it is natural it doesn't mean it

appropriate for every age. Sex (oops, sorry, the cabbage that brought the baby

here) is also natural, our naked body is very natural, yet we do not walk around

the house naked if the kids are around (I hope), and we don't give them " live

sex lessons " bc it is creating problems later in life.and if you ask me -

playing with a doll as if she is your baby - sorry - very sexist in my book, I

know it is common, was not encouraged in my home, My daughter never played with

such dolls, she got only one barbie in her life, she was 4 yo. Played with it

once (! I didn't encourage the play nor discouraged it) and couldn't care for it

later. It ended up in the garbage, where it belongs (my opinion, an

anorexia-inducing doll) and I dont think it will make her a bad mother when she

will become one, if she would want to, when the time is right for her (not a

moment earlier!).Why dont we buy this doll to boys, for them to " learn " what

mommy is doing with their new baby-sibling. Why only girls? if it is so

natural?I breast fed my daughter and enjoyed it but I am not for all this

pressure and overall campaign for it. it is too much and this doll took it too

far too soon.

I see nothing wrong with it. What could be more natural? I grew up in a country

where women breast fed (until American puritan morals were imposed and became

popular) and then it became offensive to be sitting in the plaza, or the bus

stop, or street corner, or church, and feed a hungry child from your breasts.

Now, THATâ€™s what I call offensive. Mammals eat from the breast or teat, and

weâ€™re mammals.

Back in the day before formula, there was only breastfeeding. When did it

become so " disgusting " to people. I was unable to breastfeed my 7 month

old. It devastated me. I looked at the ingredients on the can of formula

and wanted to vomit. The first thing is corn syrup solids. If girls grow

up with breasfeeding dolls, then it's not going to seem so out of place or

uncomfortable for people because after all, that is what breasts are for.

You can talk to a kid about breastfeeding and not have to explain how a baby

was born. I had a baby in July... I had a 3.5 year old at the time. He

knew there was a baby in my belly... and he knew it came out when I went to

the hospital. That was good for him. He didn't ask how it got in

there...and if he did, I would have told him something innocent enough that

would both not be a lie, and would have satisfied his curiousity.

Maybe instead it is time to stop " glamorizing " breasts as sexual only. I

have seen men with " bigger " boobs (mostly overweight men) than women but

they can go shirtless in public whereas a woman breastfeeding is shunned

even when she covers up. Why are women getting breast augmentation surgery

and in some cases unable to breastfeed?

Breastfeeding is NOT disgusting. I didnt say that in any place. I breast fed my

17 yo (my only one) and I loved it. I breast fed in public places and felt no

problem with it (of course I was covering myself), but that is exactly what I

don't want women to feel " devastated " because you can't. whether you couldn't

because you took medications that don't allow you to breasfeed, because you have

a n emotional/psychological issue with a baby is touched to your breast when

before it was your husband (my mom did not breast feed us for that reason. She

tried, didn't like it. I dont think it killed us or harmed us in any way and

baby formulas where not as good as they are today, I am 45 yo. Both my sister

and I were very healthy, we didnt grow up visiting the doctor for allergies or

were sicker hen other kids and we never been sick, thanks G-d with any sever

disease as kids, and not so far, thanks G-d), or because they have sore nipples

and it really painful to them.I feel sad to hear that women like you are

devastated, as if it is the end of the world if you didnt breastfeed. Its

preferred, but not a must. BEing a good mother has noting to do with

breasfeeding. SO many mothers are abusive in so many ways, and I am sure some of

them breasfed their babies. Whats important is the relationships you build with

your children and that is a process that builds up with interaction and years or

good work, and human mistakes (and mothers who think they are perfect sent even

more wrong messages to their children, no body is perfect). I dont like the

pressure that our society brings in many issues, this is one. It should not be

this way. Years ago, women only breast fed bc here was nothing else. and women

who didnt had to hire a wet nurse (which is something, in todays' options) I

would never do - a stranger is breasfeeding my child...ewwwww. but that's me.

and years ago, women didn't have the choice of advanced education (if she was

lucky to go to elementary school with her brothers), let alone the option to

have a career.Just because we have the " twins " doesn't mean we should all

breatfeed, and we should not be pressured either.

- in our society there is so much double standards when you compare men

and women. Women have 5 extra pounds and they are " fat " and " must " lose it. Man

can be 50 lbs overwt and we will still love them and be attracted to them bc we

love who they are as ppl and how they treat up (hopefully good).Man who have

bigger breast then we do, could be also due to liver disease and they develop

breasts - Gynecomastia - its not just fat, it is an actual breast tissue and

they are prone to breast CA (which could happen to man even w/o gynecomastia).

Breast are not just sexual, but they are also sexual. and the joy of

breastfeeding is very different from the joy of sexual touch. For some women, it

is difficult to separate, and they feel weird about it, and this is their right

to feel how they want to feel w/o any pressure.
