Guest guest
My two cents worth--lactulose is for constipation, but it should be a last resort. It's heavy duty stuff. I eat lots of cereals, fruits, and vegtables but have had to finally give in to taking a laxative for the first time in my 59 years.

Guest guest
, Hi! I also take MIralax. The only problem that I have with it is that sometimes it works too GOOD. Close to diarrhea & not much control over it. My gastroenterologist recommended that I take the Miralax & Milk of Magnesia. I also ate LOTS of fiber, fruits & veggies. I never thought that I would have a constipation but I did! My gastroenterolgist said that it is combination of the meds that I'm on & the disease. Do you take Miralax once a day & when? Take care. Guest guest
Wow! Miralax and Milk of Magnesia? That's a double whammy. No wonder you have the " Taiwan Trots " . Why won't just one or the other do? Dolores Re: Just joined your group today! > , > Hi! I also take MIralax. The only problem that I have with it is that > sometimes it works too GOOD. Guest guest
Dolores, The " Taiwan Trots " are right!!! LOL!!!! She prescribed both of them after she had done a colonoscopy on me & knew that I had major problems! Since I found out myself that I can't handle BOTH of them I do take one or the other! For years I had irritable bowel syndrome - my system is so weird!! Beth

Guest guest
Beth, My neurologist doesn't believe it is the disease, but the combination of meds I'm taking. However, I do believe it is related to PLS, because even when I have diarrhea, I have to " push " it out. That really bothers me, too. I would like to just have a normal movement, but I don't want to go on about this because we just had a patient transferred to my ward this past week who is obsessed with her bowel movements and really believes she has to have at least 3 per day. She was taking two laxatives and Milk of Magnesia (Another laxative) daily with the Milk of Mag being given her up to 3 times per day. She had had diarrhea the entire week before her transfer, but stated she had not had a bowel movement in two weeks. Now you have some idea about the type of person I work with. She is really a nice lady, too. Well-educated and articulate. This is the worst kind - An intelligent person with psychosis, especially if they have any college or degrees. We have 3, one with a Master's degree in School Psychology, one with a B.A. in Public Health Administration and the lady mentioned with 3 years. We also have another REALLY psychotic lady with 3 years of college. She only works well with one Rehab therapist. The rest of us have difficulty refraining from cleansing the gene pool. Actually, the same could be said for the two with the degrees, especially the one with the M.S. We believe his personality was just a little bit like it is now, but has gotten worse with his paranoid psychosis. I'm rambling, but it's been a long day. I gave you more information than you could possibly have wanted. Yes, some of us do have the same problem. Mike Gray Logansport IN At 04:15 PM 6/24/02 -0400, you wrote: >, >Hi! I also take MIralax. Guest guest
Hi Mike, No, you didn't give me more information than I wanted! I'm always appreciative of any information that anyone can give me! The Irritable Bowel Syndrome that I used to have was horrible. Only happened when I ate in a restaurant. The first time was a very embarrassing accident at my sisters. And every time after that I would get so scared that I was going to have an accident that I DID have diarrhea. I was scared to ride in anyone else's car after eating out for fear of an accident. Needless to say, my social life really suffered. After eating out I always had to be the driver in my car. That is all gone now -- knock on wood- and I don't know what stopped it. I don't know if it is all the muscle relaxers that I take or what. But, I'm just happy that it is gone. I'd so much rather have this constipation which I still believe is a combination of our diseases & medication. But - what do I know??!! Take care, Mike.
