You have to keep in mind that studies usually can not be done in pregnant

women because if they have do have " poor results " a newborn's life is at

stake. They will usually " insufficient reliable evidence. "

This is what Natural Medicine Database says: *PREGNANCY*: POSSIBLY

UNSAFE<http://naturaldatabase.therapeuticresearch.com/nd/SearchHelp.aspx?cs= & s=N\

D & sh=12 & t=10 & pt=100 & r=102#ri102>...when

used orally. Flaxseed can have mild estrogenic effects.

Theoretically, this might adversely affect pregnancy

however, there is no reliable clinical evidence about the effects of

flaxseed on pregnancy outcomes.

* LACTATION*: Insufficient reliable information available; avoid using.

According to Canadian guidelines ( Health and Welfare), - Flax seed is safe

during pregnancy, lactation. I teach in a family medicine residency OB clinic

and recommend the ground flax seed routinely to counter balance the constipation

from the iron in the prenatal vitamin. I am unaware of any RCT trials that show

any possible harmful effects to fetus.

I do not recommend flax seed oil to anyone.

NIH factsheets (free, available to the public) say the same about flax not being

safe during pregnancy.

I use Natural Standards database and love it, but recommend NIH to clients

because it's free.
