Hi Myrna,

I can feel a lot of sympathy for your situation. My knees hurt me all the

time. I'm taking MTX and it helps a lot but I also have " Baker's cysts " on the

back of my knees. My doc says they develop in response to the RA in the knee

joint. When the RA gets better the cysts sometimes just go away or at least get

better. It makes the back of my legs burn and ache like crazy sometimes. The doc

told me that if they didn't get better they could be surgically drained....

sounds awful...... thankfully mine have gotten somewhat better.

I remember when my son was young he had JRA and his knees would be swollen,

red and hot. The only thing that really helped when he had a flare like that was

rest and cold packs. He didn't have the cysts (thank goodness), it was just the

joint acting up. Hopefully you don't have the cysts either. Prop your feet up

and rest. Use some ice packs and see if that helps. If not, alternate ice and

heat. When my knees hurt I use the RICE technique that they teach for injuries.

" rest, ice, compression, elevation " . I also use pain meds if all else fails.

I hope I have told you something that would help. This is really a tough

disease to fight but don't give up. I believe there are solutions if we look for

them long and hard enough.

Be blessed,

Christie
