Guest guest
The same thing happened to me, . My LLMD wanted me to take an antibiotic rest after a year and a half. Two days later, every symptom that I ever had returned in full force. I put up with it for 10 days and went back on Biaxin. The next day, my sx improved. Guest guest
Went to urgent care this weekend. My temp got to 102.7 and I was coughing so bad I felt like I had pneumonia. The doc said it was probably a virus I got from my daughter I had taken to the doc earlier in the week and bronchitis. This is the second round of bronchitis for me this year so far. I am wondering if I should blame the MTX. Joy
Guest guest
I'm so sorry you are sick Joy! I had my issues with bronchitis this year..I had it for three months, finally got rid of it, was healthy the week of the Christmas holidays. Then, I got a sinus infection and upper respiratory infection, then I had the flu, then another sinus infection. I went to the doctor today and have a severe respiratory infection. He gave me an antibiotic that will help the bacterial infection and also has a dual purpose to kill certain bacterias that cause pneumonia. I've never been this sick ever, until this winter and Sulfasalazine. I wash my hands all the time, disinfect everything and I keep getting it! I hope you are feeling better soon! I'm hoping one round of antibiotics helps me this time too! And this better be my last infection of the season:) --- Joy <jhoorm01@...> wrote: > Went to urgent care this weekend. Guest guest
I am so sorry you have had such a terrible illness! I am not a doctor, but I would GUESS the drugs MAY have something to do with it, here is why... When my rhuematologist first put me on my meds, he metioned, " You will want to be careful about getting sick, it is a little harder to shake off because of the medications. " I acknowledged what he said, then just sort of...forgot about it! Well, I taught a large group of children in a church Primary class for many months. This winter they brought illness into the class...and I got it! What should have taken me 2 or 3 weeks to shake took me nearly 2 months. The doctor put me on several antibiotics, and I asked my pharmacist if my RA drugs could be causing me to not get well. She said, " Oh, yes! They have to mildly suppress your immune system. " Then she tried to suggest some ways to build my system back up to fight the illness, then in exasperation told me I better talk to my Rhumatologist. I have looked up my drugs on line, one of my drugs is mtx, too. From a site I was on it did list " decrease resistance to infection " as a side effect. Again, I am not a doctor or professional, I would talk to your doctor about this. My personal experience and limited research convinces ME for ME I have to be very careful now. And for me that meant I had to quit teaching the children. I hope I haven't given any misinformation, and I truly hope you get feeling better! -- In , stephanie <stephieann2@...> wrote: > > I'm so sorry you are sick Joy! Guest guest
hi beverly - speak to the person that issued the scrip for ldn, also speak to the supplier/chemistsame side effect as me but you get over it, depends how long you are prepared to put up with itstick with itbrgds peter/london/ms primary progressive I started taking LDN about 3 months ago. Once I worked up to 3.5 I got sick, flu like bug that wouldn't go away and ended up having to go to the doctor. Once I got over the flu I continued to feel really bad so discontinued LDN for about 3 weeks. I started back on it at 2.5 a couple of weeks ago, and moved up to 3.0 a few days ago. Now I am sick again with a flu like bug. Is this just a coincidence? I am considering stopping the LDN again to see if I don't get better faster. Guest guest
It takes some people longer to respond to LDN, and they may be colonized with pathogenic yeast and bacteria that could be slowing response. There is a phenomenon that happens to some people that as the immune system is shifting (usually from T2 to T1) right after starting LDN, the immune system drops and people get an infection, cold, flu, cold sore, etc. which is usually short lived. Candida tends to overgrow or a virus will flare up. These infections are usually short-lived unless something like candida and gut bacteria needs treatment. Are you a big bread/carbohydrate/sugar eater? Ever been tested for candida (yeast) or gut bacterial infestation? Ever been checked for hypothyroidism? Would you be willing to stop all casein (milk products) and gluten (wheat, rye, barley and oats) for a week and see if you feel better? A study done several years ago showed that 30% of us have some degree of celiac disease (intolerance/allegy to wheat) even though the clinical symptoms may not be obvious enough to alert most people to that. When anyone in that 30% of persons stops eating wheat, they feel a lot better. The LDN may be acting like the opioid antagonist it is and causing a withdrawal reaction from taking away your fix, even if only for a few hours. Try to hang in for awhile longer, and it will probably get better. These setbacks usually do not last long unless something like a yeast infection is stubborn without specific treatment. Dr. JM ===== Q: Dr. JM or anyone- Does LDN cause candida? A: LDN has been noted to aggravate yeast infections and other latent pathogens, viruses, etc. as the immune system is making early adjustments. It is good to have natural yeast remedies on board when LDN is started (grapefruit seed extract, Candex, lauricidin, hi-potency probiotics, etc) to help offset this possibility. (And of course a good dietary regime that does not encourage gut inflammation which is usually the predecessor to pathogen invasion). Guest guest
Once you start ldn ,there is a shift in the immune system. Many get explosion of candida and have to treat it. Some will get problem with viruses.you have to treat it. One way is vit c to bowel tolerance or spcific prioduct for viruses.
